This package features an incredible live DVD and a CD of mediocre songs.
If you buy this, it'll be for the DVD. Crystal clear video and audio quality, and a great song selection of all of A7X's hits from Waking The Fallen, City Of Evil, and their self-titled. I would've liked to see one or two more WTF tracks, but other then that it's great. There are a also a few extras, intro videos and stuff.
The CD itself, Diamonds in the Rough, isn't the best. Mainly covers and b-sides from
their self-titled. There are 7 b-side songs. If you didn't like some of the 'quirkier'
stuff from their self-titled, then these are welcome additions. They lean more towards 'City Of Evil' style, dual guitars and never ending solos with clean vocals. Except
for a piano here or a weird voice effect there, these tracks are pretty 'gimmick'-free.
Some songs have even stupider lyrics then normal A7X (Crossroads), others are better but
are way too long (Demons). It's not a bad collection but its a good thing that they
stayed off the original album. None of them really stand out; I can't even honestly
decide which one is my favorite.
The covers: both 'Flash of the Blade' (Iron Maiden) and 'Walk' (Pantera) pale in
comparison to their originals, but they certainly aren't bad efforts. In addition to
those, there are 2 "remixed" songs from the self-titled, 'Almost Easy' and 'Afterlife'.
They're not much of remixes at all. 'Almost Easy' just has slightly different, more angry
vocals. I prefer these to the original, actually, but there was really no point of making
this. 'Afterlife' just has different and additional violin parts, even less noticeable
then the other remix.
Overall, if you're a big Sevenfold fan, buy this. The DVD is suberb, and the music CD,
while not A7X's best, will satisfy you if you're desperate for new material. If you're
not already a fan, this won't convert you. |

| wow, what a trip. one single hour-long song, more of a dark ambiance than anything substantial. the first time I listened to it, I actually wanted to die. but other than that, an awesome piece. it's rare for me to be effected that much by music... points just for that |
