Everything great about The New Amsterdams, but improoved with the even more stripped down vibe. Great folk-ish music. There is beauty is this simplicity. Also, Matt's lyrics are as poignant as ever. Very tragic, too.

Punchline 37 Everywhere |
Punchline Just Say Yes |
Great album. While I thought 37 Everywhere was one of the best pop-punk records I've ever heard, they took that and expanded it across all types of landscapes. This is the "mature/experimental" album, adding pianos, keyboards, and slight electronics and more often then not it succeeds. "Ghostie", the opening track makes a great transition from their last effort to this current one. "The Hit" is a hit waiting to happen. Also, this album is quite depressing. Steve must have been going through some serious crap when he wrote these lyrics. Top 3: The Hit, Somewhere in the Dark, and Castaway. |

I begrudgingly admit I did not like this album all that much, but goddamn it is so catchy. This is truly pop gold. It took me not thinking of FOB as a pop-punk band, and more pure pop wonderment like, we'll say Michael Jackson, who they obviously want to be, |

The Aquabats The Return of the Aquabats |
Good album, not great by any means. This is the most ska of all the Aquabats albums, but at this point in their career they haven't mastered their humor or songwriting abilities yet. Many of the highlights on here appear again on the far superior Fury of the Aquabats, like "Playdough" and "Martian Girl", but both streamlined to improve their overall sound. There are some really good songs on here, but as a whole its just unbalanced.
