3.5 great
Ill Nino Enigma
The fourth album of Ill Nino, which for some unknown reason has a name of a pop group ''Enigma'', is clearly slower and at the end of the day clearly softer than everything the US-Latino-Metallers have ever released. Still, the band hasn't gone through a radical change of sound. Already in the bull-like opener, ''The alibi of tyrants'', Cristian Machado & Co. are still the same musicians that they were with the great debut album, ''Revolution revolucion'' or with their masterpiece two years later, ''Confession''. Songs, like ''Compulsion of virus and fever'', starting furiously and later being interrupted by a highly melodic solo and a ballad-like middle part, and ''2012'' ingeniously changing between Thrash guitars and Latin American rhythms only represent a new, (grown-up?) variant of the usual style. And once you have become acquainted with it, you'll soon fall in love with hymns, like ''March against me'' and ''Hot summer's tragedy'' as well as the potential hit, the Folk-like acoustic song, ''Me gusta la soledad'', too.
