I prefer Kezia to this, personally.
PTH can churn out some fucking beastly riffs, but this album doesn't do much for me in terms of riffage.
They're all very talented players, and Rody's range is incredible (even though he irritates me on this album,) but it's all a bit too overly technical here for my liking.
IMO (and a huge fucking IMO here,) excercising some restraint would have made this album a hell of a lot better. Kinda like with Dream Theater. I don't like Petrucksee's solo stuff, but when the DT guys rein him in to play some actual RIFFS he's the fucking daddy.
A more balanced riffs:instrumental masturbation ratio and they'll be on to a winning formula, but as it stands, the scales are tipped a tad too far in a direction that doesn't do much for me. It's alright, but that's about it. |
