The Devil Wears Prada Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord |
The Devil Wears Prada Plagues |
The Devil Wears Prada With Roots Above and Branches Below |
I have been a fan of TDWP from the beginning and I’ve watched their progression, and it is amazing. From the simple yet brutal rifts of Dear Love, to the simple taps of Plagues, and now the masterful With Roots Above and Branches Below. Their newest album takes you on a roller coaster of blast beats and heavy rifts. Pure Amazingnesssss.
1. The album jump starts with Sassafras a fast paced song that thrives on the deep growls of lead vocalist Mike Hranica. Usually Mike’s deep screams are short in supply, but in this song he gets the mosh-pit going with his screams. The synth in this song comes in and blows you away while you think “it’s not all about the numbers” Jeremy’s singing in this song puts it over the top. Great start up track. 4/5
2. The next track I Hate Buffering picks right up where Sassafras left off with mikes harsh screams and the double bass pedal stomping loudly. This track is magnified by Dan Williams’ drums and James Baney’s Synth work. The Epic feel of the synth is amazing with mikes signature screams leading the way. This track is worth a listen. 4/5
3. After following the two intro tracks, Assistant to the Regional Manager really shows the progression of TDWP. This track is very well structured with repeating parts and the brutal breakdown at the end. It starts out with soft guitar with turns into passionate screaming. This song has three specific parts that will blow you away, one being when Jeremy comes in with the clean vocals. His singing perfectly corresponds to the synth. The second comes when mike screams one word over and over again, “RUMORS AND RUMORS AND ...RUMORS” The synth in the back ground gives you a chill when you hear it. The final piece to this amazing song is the breakdown! Mike screams correspond to the guitars and make metalcore magic. 5/5
4. The next track and lead single is Dez Moines. This song thrives on fast paced guitar and great singing by Jeremy. This song makes you want to scream along to Mike’s catchy chorus. And this song lets you know “This is the time for weakness, this is the time for blood” 4/5
5. Big Wiggly Style really gets the pit moving! The beginning of this song does it for me with the intro like guitar thudding.. I could give it a 5 out of 5 just for that. But then once Mike leads the way with his amazing vocals, and the drums and guitar are brilliant. It doesn’t quite live up to its beginning but still a solid track. 4/5
6. Next is Danger: Wildman, the first time I listened to the album this song stuck out to me the most. This song has it all, great screams, brutal breakdowns, amazing singing, a synth interlude, and one of the best guitar rifts on the album! This track I recommend to any hardcore, metalcore, metal, screamo fan out there. It will blow you away!!! 5/5
7. Then comes one of the kids favorites Ben has a Kid. This track starts out with an open guitar rift which quickly ignites into an epic of a song. The chorus sang by Jeremy will want him to make a solo project. Its really that good. The best part of this song is the breakdown near the end. Mikes pulls out his “DOI” Scream again to get the breakdown going. We all know the slower the breakdown, the more brutal, and this is one slow breakdown. And right after the breakdown, a guitar rift comes in that will give you chills as it leads into Jeremy’s heavenly singing. 4.5/5
8. Here comes one of the heaviest tracks on the album, Wapakalypse, the intense guitar at the beginning gets it going, perfectly complimented by the synth. This track once again shows you Prada’s progression as musicians. Great Track! 4/5
9. Now it is time for the unsung hero of the album, Gimme half. This is probably my favorite song on the album, and this is for one reason only. The best 30 seconds of music that TDWP ever written lies within the 2:30-3:00 mark of the song. It will amaze you. The guitar and the deep screams and the double bass “roll” sooooo good! 5/5
10. Remember when I said you would wish Jeremy had a solo project, well Louder than Thunder, gives you a small taste. A soft ballad with beautiful singing.4/5
11. Finally this epics final chapter, Lord Xenu, This track opens up with a harsh scream, and doesn’t let go. The singing in this track is superb. And this track is fitting ended to such a amazing album. 4/5
