Ted Nugent The Ultimate Ted Nugent
It is easy to overlook what a rock legend guitarist/sometimes singer Ted Nugent is. Nugent in recent years has become more famous for his pro-NRA, Republican agenda than his music. That is a shame because he still is one of the best guitarist in all of rock with his hard rock/R & B style of playing. Nugent's early solo albums with Derek St.Holmes on lead vocals for most tracks are some of the finest albums in all of hard rock. Since the 80's, however, his work has been medicore with some albums such as Sprit of the Wild being among his best work and stuff like If You Can't Lick Em, Lick Em being an embarassment. On the Ultimate Ted Nugent you get to hear most of his better songs off of his debut, Free For All, Cat Scratch Fever, Weekend Warriors, State of Shock, Scream Dream and a couple of his classic live discs. If you are only a casual fan of the Nuge or unfamiliar with most of his work, this is not a bad place to start.

Def Leppard Songs from the Sparkle Lounge
I was a big Def Leppard fan growing up and loved the early albums. Everything through Pyromania was amazing. I must admit, despite its popularity, Hysteria marked the end of the band as true hard rockers. Their last several albums have sucked royally, but I had high hopes for this album which was supposed to be a return to form. Unfortunately, it is not.
The album is rather mellow accept for the opening track. In fact, most of the songs seem to be midtempo and Joe Elliot's voice sounds worn. There really are no rememberable songs on this album and that is a shame. I want to like the new Def Leppard because I am an old school hard rocker who actually does buy new albums from older bands. This one, however, I cannot defend.
