It is an altogether pleasant album, especially considering the band's notoriety for, well...unpleasantness, shall we say. The subdued format also comes as a surprise after the sweeping eccentricity and electronic manipulations of Joan of Arc, Dick Cheney, Mark Twain... No, this one is for the most part a pared down, acoustic affair, and Joan of Arc give us strong evidence to believe that if they just dropped the grandiosity every once in a while, they'd surely have fewer detractors, if not quite as many maniacal zealots (full disclosure: this reviewer might be one of those). Indeed, the title track is...wait for it...as understated and elegant, and beautiful, as a simple pencil sketch from a genuinely artistic (read: not autistic) artist.Make Believe Of Course4.0 excellentJoan of Arc How Memory Works3.0 goodJoan of Arc A Portable Model Of
