Defiance, Ohio The Great Depression
The realistic optimism that is Defiance, Ohio is spotlighted in the song "Calling Old Friends". The Song Starts out with a slower calming entry whose lyrics in a way sum up the entire song, and then picks up the pace. What I love about the song -even the band in general--is that they sing about things that matter. When I'm listening to music I want to feel like I'm learning someone’s opinion, and gaining new perspective. Also, I believe (some don't), that it sounds incredible.

In the song there are two vocalists; a male and a female, two violinists, an upright bass, an electric guitar, and a simplistic drum kit. Although I have been told that people aren't too fond of the male's voice, I have always loved it, and I easily look over the lack or range, because his voice creates an odd balance with the rest of the band. The girl's voice, in my opinion, is beautiful.

The band has released five albums in their history, and the song that I'm writing about is from the album "The Great Depression". If you really love the song you can go to defianceohio.com, where they have a link where you can download all of their albums for free. They have also release an album with a similar band called Ghost Mice. The link to that album is also on the site.
