If you are hoping it's going to be like Jester Race or Colony, turn away. In Flames is heading in a new direction, and this album is basically the first or second (assuming Come Clarity was the first) installment. I am a fan of the newer In Flames, A Quiet Place is easily my favorite song of theirs. This album was a flop for me initially, but like most albums it grew on me. At first I would have given this album a gracious 3/5 because In Flames is my favorite band. Now I willingly give them a well-deserved 4/5 because I like the album that much. It is definitely a hit-or-miss album in the sense that a lot of people will be disappointed, but it is DEFINITELY not the equivalent of say Metallica's "St. Anger." As for the music, this album is a mixture of their Alternative Metal with some Death Metal around it. There are clear Hardcore influences for me; primarily with the song breakdowns. Where In Flames continues to pull through is the way their songs always return to catchy chorus' that keep you listening. This is for me one of their better albums to be honest, but I didn't like their earlier works as much as their newer material.3.5 greatThe Raconteurs Consolers of the LonelyThe Raconteurs are back and this time with a more solid release. This album is a clear improvement from their first album, and was a lot more enjoyable for me. With "Consolers of the Lonely" The Raconteurs went for a more funky somewhat retro sound, that was heavily influenced by Jack White's latest work with his ex-wife; "Icky Thump". The album is a lot more well rounded than their debut album, but I still think they are capable of much more, and hope that they release another album in the next few years that puts them closer to a 5/5, but currently they have earned only a 3.5/5 and I hope they start working towards their true potential.
