Four Year Strong show's signs of being able to be great. But their hard core "edge" is majorly dulled by the sheer poppy-ness of most of this record. Seriously, border line bubble gum.
Hopefully they have matured a bit for their next full length. I'm not holding my breath though. |

The vocals on this are other worldly. His range is insane. From powerful guttural lows to his signature hollow sounding mid-shout thing he does, weaving up and down effortlessly. All while keeping his words audible and clear. Accompanied of course by the crushing grooves and eerie dissonance that Traitors is known for, with plenty bass drops sprinkled in. The production is punchy and clear. Over all a great EP, definitely the best work they've done.

These guys are locals to the Los Angeles and Valley area here in California and its a general consensus, among the local show goers here, that they are the next big thing to hit the metal/hardcore scene very soon. You must buy this album. And For 6$, how can you go wrong? Pounding rhythms, groove-tastic guitar riffs, haunting leads, its all here to make one hell of a self produced freshman album.

This is great for a debut for sure! Their lyrics/songwriting is a little lazy though. The whole "CHUG-CHUG-DISCORD-BROWN NOTE CHUGZ!" thing is so early 2000's. Also i heard a lot of "open, 8, 10" chord progressions which was only ok for As I Lay Dying back in '03. They really need to step it up for their next album. They could use the synth so much more dynamically! He hardly plays! They have so much potential! Be sure to give this one a listen. Its fun, energetic, and fresh. A little repetitive though.
Attila Rage
People need to rate music like this for what is, not what they think it should be. Sure they aren't breaking any artistic barriers or anything but they can sure get down. And thats what they where going for, and they do it well.

Overall awesome. Good breakdowns and heavy techy riff-age. A bit to "progressive" at some points though. Gets a little hard to follow. But thats what this genre's all about right?
Also the guitar solo at the end of "Nothing Imminent" is SICK. Super jazzy. |

Ambiguity is all I hear when I listen to this. Nondescript dissonance. I can't remember any songs as I sit here typing this. Unlike The Current Will Carry Us which has loads of memorable moments. Prophets too. But this... The production is great. The band is as tight as ever. The riffs though... Theres nothing to latch onto. Maybe it will grow on me. I'll keep listening.

Loving the hell out of this album right now. The punishing beats, great transitions, cool rtime signatures, spastic riffing, guttural vocals, even some pop punk sections thrown in for rgood measure! They keep you guessing the whole way trough while keeping their sound rconsistently heavy. Definitely worth a listen. rThe clean vocals are much better this time around, for the most part. His rsinging sometimes slips into a strange Tom DeLonge esque tone. Like he's jokingly singing rlike that. With the enunciated vowels and what not. When you hear it you'll know what i'm rtalking about. The production, however, is a total clip fest! So loud! So much fizz in the rmix its hard to hear the guitars at times. They need to remaster the recording and re-release rit or something because is that bad. I thought i had a bad copy at first but it sounds the rsame on iTunes.

I first heard Rat Poison and i was like hot damn! So i definitely had to check the rest out. I though the whole album was going to just crush the whole way through but hen they started with the obligatory metal-core clean choruses which are all pretty boring and take away from the overall craziness.
The Story So Far The Story So Far
Songs kinda run together. They're all in the same key and vocalist has a certain scale he like to stay in. He can sing but damn, change it up once and a while. Less punk, more pop than previous efforts. No guitar riffs worth mentioning. Every song is about girls and love. Nerve is my favorite. Good when a song comes up in a shuffle but kinda hard listening the album all the way through.

Bowsers castle is a highlight, the rest of the songs just meld together in a mix of unvarying vocal delivery and ‘sprinkler’
trap hi-hats. They axed their other guitar player due to an alleged #metoo incident, maybe thats were the riffs went. Or
maybe he left on principle when (country girl) was pitched at band practice one day. Either way, when he left, he must
have taken a piece of Belmont with him. |

The production is lacking. Cant get past it. Some killer riffs in here from Swan and the gang but they're buried under the vocals and drums. Way too loud on both. And the bass guitar is nearly inaudible. DGD is the music first, vocals second! That's the way it should be, at least.
Emarosa Relativity
They should have had Johny just do the whole album acapella because he's all i hear when i listen to this. The music is just so forgettable. As i sit hear right now typing this i struggle to remember any riffs i heard on this album.

Such monster riffs and soaring melodies! I just cant help but feel the vocalist should be singing
over most of it. Even when they strip it back and come in with the plucky clean guitars and
ambiance with some light percussion, i'm like "oh yeah here comes the crooning, lay it on me".
NOPE. He comes in with the same shouty highs he uses for the nearly the entire album. He gets
close to singing with his pitched shouts sometimes. And the maybe two times he sings, its doubled
with a screaming track at the same volume. It's a shame. For a band this melodic it really needs
to be half and half sing/scream, at least. The songs just run together because of all this. The
impressive guitar noodling and solid grooves can only carry a song so far. |

It seems The Used have lost their edge on this album. They went for a more accessible sound this time around and it just bores me. I liked some of Bert's melodies but all the songs have the same structure and they become very predictable.
Thirteen Bled Promises Disimpregnations
Thrice The Alchemy Index Vols. III & IV
Thrice The Artist in the Ambulance (Revisited)
The vibe is just, off. It?s like they?re covering their own album. The production is way less punchy and the guest vocals are really just filling in on screaming duty since Dustins voice is beaten and bruised. No interesting reimagining of the songs in new ways, nothing added, nothing taken away, a few riffs or vocal melodies have a couple different notes in them, but other than that it?s just a less energetic play-through of their classic album rather than a ?revisit?. Maybe it was a business move to regain some licensing rights or something. Whatever it?s about, I?ll stick with the original.
Trust Company The Lonely Position of Neutral
Veil of Maya All Things Set Aside
We Came As Romans To Plant a Seed
At first i couldn't really listen to this album. All of the string sections, over production, and "epic-ness" where just over bearing and almost comical at some points. I couldn't even hear the guitars in a few sections! And all the lines they sing about how "brotherly their brotherhood is with their fellow brothers" kind of got old after two songs. But when you get past all those things and the weak song writing, there are a few parts that get your feet moving. Which is all they're really trying to do anyways. Right?
