2.0 poor
Herbie Hancock Head Hunters
Light and fluffy. It sounds like elevator music. And emotionally pretty vacuous. And the timbres of all the instruments are too smooth and plasticy. Some of the grooves are clever, but it doesn't seem like they back them up with much passion, like you would hear on a Funkadelic record for example.
Radiohead In Rainbows
Radiohead were already one of the biggest bands in the world and they had nothing to prove. So why was In Rainbows their safest, slickest pop record yet? The band sounds like they need to lay off the coffee and just relax. "Videotape" is welcome as a pretty closing track, but the transition from the spastic "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" is horrible. In sum, In Rainbows is polished to a quick, snappy, lifeless pop fetish with little of its artistic potential realized.
Highlights: "Reckoner", "Videotape"
Lowlights: "House of Cards", "Jigsaw Falling Into Place"
