Shield Your Eyes - 4.5 Already released on Bivouac as the first song, this is a rougher, slower, and live version of the original. Automatically one of their bests. Equalized - 3.5 First recorded on their first '89 demo, this song really has interesting monotone back-up vocals that really just add to most of the songs greatness. Caroline - 3.5 Another '89 demo song and on the Brouhaha 7" with bands like Cringer and Nuisance. Well it's definitely different. I liked the guitar on the verse and intro, and of course Blake will have a good vocal chorus like always. Better Half - 2.5 Yet another from the '89 demo. This song kind of seemed like filler to me, but of course with 20 tracks what album wouldn't? It's a longer song too. The guitar has some pretty good soloing, which sort of saved it. Split - 3 Yet, yet another song from the ole'89 demo. It's over 4 minutes long like "Better Half", but is on the right track. Has similar backing vocals of "Equalized" as well, but definitely has originality. Gutless - 3 This has a nice little guitar/bass composition on the intro, verse, and interlude. Lacks slightly on the chorus though. With Or Without U2 - 4 Probably one of the weirdest songs made. It's a combination from covers of U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" & "With Or Without You", The Vapor's "Turning Japanese", and The Misfit's "Skulls". Jawbreaker actually played this song quite a few times in their earlier shows. Fun, upbeat, great song. Fantastic Planet - 4 At first when you hear it you think, 'great, a slow, boring, far out song'. Wrong. It turns pretty heavy with a 80's hardcore punk feel. Nice aggression and great guitar & bass. Rich - 5 Originally on the '89 demo as a poorer written song. Now this is one of their most overlooked, underating songs ever. It's motivating, it's inspirational, it's orgasmic. Listen to this song. Peel It The *** Down - 4.5 One of their few slower songs. Starts with a great guitar, reminds me of Fugazi in some way. Has nice lyrics thrown in aswell. Has a somewhat deep and dark feel too. Great chorus, overall, very nice. Pretty Persuasion - 4.5 Cover from an REM song. Greatly played. Kiss The Bottle - 5 Arguably one of their greatest. Nothing else to say. First Step - 4 Has a pretty similar guitar intro as " Do You Still Hate Me", but different after that. Verse is the only thing not especially great. The rest, catchy and not depressing. ;) Friends Back East - 3.5 You've gotta love the guitar on the intro, but overall it's average compared to the others. Sea Foam Green - 4 Housesitter - 3.5 Has a harder alternative essence to it. Not bad. Into You Like A Train - 4.5 Originally by The Psychedelic Furs. The beginning has nice guitar harmonics making it sound like a train, which was pretty cool. Another great cover by another great band. Sister - 3.5 At first, a syphony of out turn guitars, Whoa. Then starts out the song on an overdriven guitar and to a pretty good song. To me it reminded me of a the clashiest you could get between Jawbreaker and Jets To Brazil in one song. Friendly Fire - 4 This definetly could have been on Dear You and be satisfied with. Starts with a nice 5 octave effect. Has a nice ballady emo sound as how greatly they're known for all along. Boxcar - 5 Finally we get to Boxcar, the song Jawbreaker so commonly known for. Well of course it will get a 5. Some might this even a better version.
