The arrangements are so creative and complex. On top of that, the story and music blur lines, crossing between one another and become entwined. The Dear Hunter is the best band making music today. The White Stripes White Blood CellsWeezer PinkertonMy first experience with Weezer came a little over two years ago when "Make Believe" was released. The first single from the album, "Beverly Hills" instantly became my new least favorite song. I made it my temporary mission to berate Weezer and their fans at every turn. Constantly, I was told by friends to check out some of their older stuff. Two years later, I finally did and thusly, found Pinkerton, one of the greatest albums of my lifetime (aka the 90's to today). This is album feels sexually frustrated. Rivers Cuomo's distorted guitars and slightly out-of-place solos make the album so perfectly flawed that you wonder what motivated Cuomo to write such a brutally honest record.4.5 superbJay-Z American GangsterPaul Baribeau Paul BaribeauSay Anything ...Is a Real BoyIn my opinion, Say Anything is one of the few bands in the "scene" that understand the art of album crafting. ...Is a Real Boy is a perfect album. Even it's flaws work to it's advantage. It really is a very special piece of work.4.0 excellentAlesana On Frail Wings of Vanity and WaxI really enjoyed this album. Alesana is the only screamo band I've ever liked and, honestly, I'm not quite sure what sets them apart from the other bands in their genre. Perhaps it's the fact that I've never heard a band so blatantly over-the-top and so unapologetically stereotypical. Whatever it is, I love this album. Cloud Cult Feel Good GhostEminem EncoreKanye West Late RegistrationSay Anything In Defense of the GenreMax Bemis again proves his ability to craft a great album here. However, the story of the album is a little too overt. ...Is a Real Boy was a lot more subtle with it's story and thusly, more enjoyable. It's still a great album though. Lyrically, Bemis hasn't seemed to have lost his touch for making us think, making us laugh, and making us sad. Also, he's stretching himself musically and hits a home run with it almost every time. The Dear Hunter Act I: The Lake South, the River NorthThe Fratellis Costello MusicThis album is quite amazing. I love how the Fratellis are able to produce catchy, commercial friendly rock music without compromising any of the actual ROCK. So many bands try to do something like this and end up with overly poppy radio rock. Brava to the Fratellis. The Matches A Band In HopeThe White Stripes Icky ThumpWeatherbox American Art3.5 greatFlight of the Conchords Flight of the ConchordsKimya Dawson I'm Sorry That Sometimes I'm MeanThe Matches Decomposer3.0 goodKiss Kiss Reality Vs. It has it's moments of above averageness (such as "The Last Great Punk Rock Song" and "Where the Hurt is"). Overall, it's a great novelty album for Say Anything fans but a pretty average album overall. The Mars Volta Frances the MuteThe Matches E.
