| Ultimately, I don't think we can pass final judgement on this album until we hear the next Linkin Park album (or even Fort Minor, for that matter.) I think some of the stuff that is putting Mike Shinoda in a melodic, soulful position works really well; trying to make Linkin Park into the next U2, however, not so much. They honestly need to self-produce the next CD (where was Rick Rubin on this?), since that seemed to net pretty good results on the original Hybrid Theory EP. (I have mixed feelings on Don Gilmore's role on the first two albums.) If the next CD shows a lot of growth, we may look again at MTM and go, "Oh, okay, I kinda see what was going on there;" if not, LP becomes "the band that that guy from Fort Minor was in." |
