Slipknot Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses
Vol. 3 is easily slipknot's best album. Often times I see fans claiming slipknot sold out, or have gotten "softer." I think they are confusing softness for maturity. This is easily slipknot's most polished effort to date. This album incorporates melody, guitar solos, and actual singing on corey's part. They don't seem to be relying on shock rap/rock tactics this time around. I'll admit i liked several songs from their older albums, but I probably wouldn't like slipknot much if it weren't for this album.

I found this album a bit disappointing in comparison to MH's past two albums. For one, I miss Jmann. Waylon is good at what he does, and his clean vocals are great when he uses them, but his harsh vocals have nothing on Jmann. Other than that, most of tracks here don't really jump out at you like their past efforts. Tracks like "12 hundred," "simple survival," "save us, and the first ever acoustic track "embrace the ending," are excellent. However, the rest of the album is average, and pretty forgettable. This is especially disappointing because I've felt that MH's music was extremely compelling.

I usually never complain when a band becomes more "radio friendly" or tries something new. However, in LP's case, it just doesn't suit them well. "Everyday combat" seemed like it could have been ripped straight from "Start Something." However, the rest of the album is undeniably pop. While "Rooftops" is a catchy single, and undoubtedly a good song, it's a shame there is almost no trace of their older sound. When most bands go the route LP is going, they usually try to incorporate a sound that's accessible to new listeners, but still keep it interesting enough that they'll retain the attention of older fans. This isn't the case in "Liberation Transmission."
