4.5 superb
Benighted Icon
Burzum Det Som Engang Var
Rotting Christ Theogonia
While continuing to strive further away from thier black metal roots, this is still an extremely interesting album. Melodic yet aggressive, this band continues to amaze me with every album. This album is unique in so many ways, both for the band and the blackened death genre. I continue to be impressed by the continued evolution of this band, and am sadddened that they still do not have the recognition they deserve.

Agalloch Ashes Against the Grain
All That Remains The Fall of Ideals
Burzum Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Burzum Burzum
Dimmu Borgir In Sorte Diaboli
This album is certainly a breath of fresh air to me, considering the monotony and boredom of thier past few releases. The band clearly shows a very consise, straightforward theme, well-written music, and potent delivery, and a sound very clear and unique for the band. The best DB release to date.
Impending Doom Nailed. Dead. Risen.
Kataklysm In the Arms of Devastation
The Black Crowes Shake Your Money Maker
Vehemence Helping the World to See
Perhaps the best album from my favorite band. Extremely skillful mesh of melody and brutality a style that has since been beaten into the ground unecessarily by other American death metal bands. I have the fortunate experience of being a student of the album's producer/mixer/engineer. "Trinity Broadcasting (Know Your Enemy)" and "Spirit of the Soldier" are by far the best tracks.
Vehemence God Was Created

1349 Hellfire
Aborted Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture
Alice in Chains Dirt
All That Remains This Darkened Heart
Lyrically masterful, and the songwriting is worlds better than thier debut. However, the album as a whole gets a little monotonous after a while. This album still showed that some maturing needed to be done, though the talent and potential is evident in this band with this release.
Amon Amarth Versus the World
Anaal Nathrakh The Codex Necro
This is the album that got me into the band. Although thier earlier material exhibits more interesting rythms and vocals, this is still an extremely brutal and interesting release, one that I would recommend for anyone looking to get into black/grind music.
Anaal Nathrakh Hell Is Empty and All the Devils Are Her
Behemoth Demigod
Belphegor Pestapokalypse VI
Burn in Silence Angel Maker
Burn the Priest Burn the Priest
Burzum Filosofem
Burzum Burzum/Aske
Cannibal Corpse The Wretched Spawn
Cannibal Corpse Worm Infested
Chimaira Chimaira
By far the most mature album from this band to date. A great follow-up to The Impossibility of Reason, which established the band as a solid metal entity. Why they have fallen by the wayside and reverted to thier old way with the new album is beyond me. This self-titled disc is a great solid post-thrash record, with great grooves and finally some good solos from Rob Arnold. Mark's lyrics are definitely a lot more mature on this release as well. Kevin Talley's drumming definitely brought something new, heavier, and tighter to the band, though not nearly as inventibe as re-hired drummer Andols Herrick. A good album overall.
Dark Funeral Vobiscum Satanas
Dark Tranquillity Character
Dark Tranquillity Fiction
Yet another positive notch in a long and illustrious career for this band. I have been consistently impressed with each and every album, and this album proves no difference. Extremely solid, though a bit boring after a while. "Nothing to No One" and "Icipher" are great songs. The album as a whole is very well written, just nothing particularly catchy past the album's midway point.

Another great album from TBDM, though as with the others, the songs tend to run into each other and become monotonous. Also, short album legnth disappoints me as well. Trev's new high vocals style is questionable, and very much of an acquired listen. Having said all that, I think this is a well written, well performed album. 'Tis a nice addition to an already impressive discography.

Extremely average and uninspiring. Has some cool moments, but not enough to make up for the sheer disinterest that this album invokes. I was hoping the return of the Amott duo would bring out the best in Arch Enemy, but it appears that laziness and age have completely taken over. I do enjoy some of the soloing, but other than that, this is quite a forgettable album.

Chimaira Pass Out of Existence
This album was absolutely horrid. Had this been the first Chimaira album I listened to, I would have never given them another chance. Thankfully, they stepped up and dropped the nu-metal out of things on their next record.
If it was ever possible for a debut major label release to be worse than a self-released EP, this is it. How Chimira could put out such a blistering EP, This Present Darkness, on thier own time and money, and then put out the wierdest, most uncomfortable feeling album when the opportunity was handed to them on a silver planet is beyond me. Choppy, lack of any flow, and lack of any kind of songwriting structure or talent are all things that describe this record. Thankfully, they learned thier lesson and grew enormously as musicians after this record.
Coheed and Cambria No World for Tomorrow
Cradle of Filth Thornography
This is an absolutely horrid excuse for a Cradle of Filth album. There is absolutely nothing catchy, nothing heavy, nothing creative here. The guitars and melodies are uninspiring, the vocals have completely dropped off the map, and the production was less than stellar. The only salvation is that, as usual, Dani Filth is a brilliant lyricist. It's a shame that didn't transduce into a decent album. If anything, this is the album that will kill CoF for good.

This was perhaps the most boring, uninspiring, uncreative piece of music I have ever purchased. Out of curiousity after having heard the first single, "Broken Promises". I looked into and purchased it, hoping for something good. I love good, straightforward rock, but this album is truly two words: generic and boring.
