4.5 superb
200 Stab Wounds Manual Manic Procedures
I think people are mistaking unconventional death metal songwriting for lack of talent. This is obviously super punk influenced and honestly I like that they make more room for the unfathomable amount of sick riffs on this sucker.
Aara Eiger
Abduction (UK) Existentialismus
If this is the flavor of forward-thinking black metal in 2025 then sign me up for the buffet

Baan Neumann
shoegaze but not sucks.
Between the Buried and Me The Blue Nowhere
Billy Woods Aethiopes
This is so good it makes it difficult to listen to other rap.
Billy Woods and Kenny Segal Maps
I think it is physically impossible for Billy Woods to miss, and he?s at his best with Segal. Slightly less dark and more ?traditional? than last year?s records, but equally poignant and potent.
Black Curse Burning in Celestial Poison
Blood Incantation Absolute Elsewhere
Bongzilla Weedsconsin
Catharsis (USA-NC) Hope against Hope
Comparing this to the new Deadguy feels like a fever. That album is excellent but it's definitely curtailed slightly by age and rust. For last being active around the same time, this sounds like a fresh young band. It's ferocious and nothing feels recycled, Brian's vocals are liquid fire, and the riffs and textures here are thick with grit.

Danny Brown Atrocity Exhibition
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMNNNN DANIEL.rlike really doe like really doe
Darkthrone A Blaze in the Northern Sky
Darkthrone The Underground Resistance
Dead and Dripping Nefarious Scintillations
Like Gorguts had ascendant tantric sex with Demilich, and all the esoteric technical death gurgling that entails.
Deafheaven Sunbather
Deafheaven Lonely People With Power
Deafheaven once again changing the face of black metal for the better. Not the glowing pink spire that is Sunbather, but richly darkened with the gloomgaze they showcased on Infinite Granite to be a perfect amalgamation of what the band's always been trying to make: cityscape metal with both fresh and nostalgic bents.
Death Grips The Money Store
Dijon Baby
This is wildly underrated here. I have never been into R&B but this is just such exceptionally GOOD music that it should appeal to anyone with a pulse. A stunning record.
Dozer Drifting In The Endless Void
Dying Fetus Make Them Beg for Death
Emma Goldman all you are is we
Emma Ruth Rundle and Thou May Our Chambers Be Full
For such a gnarled, powerhouse sound they have on their own, Thou are ridiculously talented at tempering themselves to the different styles of their collaborators. Emma?s no slouch, and her presence is heavy throughout the sadly short record. Her desert-drone and haunting alto mixed with Thou?s murk shaved to a fine edge...potential AOTY, shoe-in for the top of the list.
Equilibrium Erdentempel
Equilibrium have not a shred of kvlt cred and their music is soaked in folk metal cliches like hurdy-gurdy and flute solos, but when it comes to consistently PRISTINE songwriting, hooks and melodies galore, all while being a ton of fun and quite frankly I could give a hoot less if they take themselves seriously, this album is a masterwork and "Uns'rer Floten Klang" is just...happiness in a tune.
Ethel Cain Preacher's Daughter
Everything Everything A Fever Dream
Everything Everything Mountainhead
Exhumed Gore Metal
This is extremely underrated!! Riffs superbly hard all over the place and has some of the most entertaining vocals in DM.
A near-perfect meeting point between pure goregrind and straight death metal. |

Godspeed You! Black Emperor G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END!
With the world social and political climate as it is, you figure GY!BE is gonna come out of their Montreal bunker for an album. The title is absolutely silly, but not surprising at all. What IS surprising is that this is easily their best since Allelujah, possibly better than that even.
GridLink Coronet Juniper
GridLink Perfect Amber
This is incredible. The amount of additional flavor and depth added with the additional tracking is exactly what you'd want from restructuring (a pair of) already excellent records.

ISIS Oceanic
ISIS Wavering Radiant
Jessie Ware That! Feels Good!
This is one of my most-listened records of the year and it's still absolutely fabulous. I've always loved Jessie but she's never made an entire album that's so delicious from top to bottom, dripping with ear candy and the classiest of innuendo.
Judas Priest Invincible Shield
Julie Christmas Ridiculous and Full of Blood
I waited literally 14 years for this album like some kind of Tool fan except I wasn?t disappointed
Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Kashiwa Daisuke Program Music III
Klysma Death
I'm not even kidding, this is the best slam I've heard in a long time. An absolutely ridiculous feature list, bottomless riffs and gurgles, hysterical samples before the breakdowns...it's got everything. Top-to-bottom fun as fuck.
Laura Stevenson Wheel
Can this just leak so I can listen to it and be super happy?
Leeched To Dull the Blades of Your Abuse
Liturgy H.A.Q.Q.
Well that came out of nowhere and rocketed up my AOTY list real quick.
Machismo Severe Disconnect
I traded Sutcliffe Jugend for this and I?m not even sorryrI also bought a replacement copy for dirt cheap so it?s kinda cheatingrThis is one of the best power electronics releases I?ve ever heard why do the nasty die fasty
Magic Circle Journey Blind

Mamaleek Come and See

Mount Eerie Night Palace
Musk Ox Woodfall
My Chemical Romance The Black Parade
Excellent excellent pop-punk emo-whatever. I had no idea it would be this amazing, but I find it hard to hear imperfections in this.
My Chemical Romance Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge (Deluxe)
Yet another example of perfection in refurbishing a classic record with more-modern mixing. When it's done wrong it's almost criminal, but when it's done correctly and with such clear love and understanding of the record like this...MMMMWAH. Chef's kiss.
Nadja Touched
Nadja Radiance of Shadows
Napalm Death Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism
Ok we are all admitting this squeaked then? Good.rThis slams. The riffs and songwriting are consistently delicious and just as visceral as a younger ND. There?s definitely even some experimentation with slower and more programmatic sounds which I think they pull off FANTASTICALLY well, and I was surprised. rHell of an album, shoe-in for the AOTY list
Ne Obliviscaris Exul
Neurosis Through Silver In Blood
Obsidian Kingdom Mantiis
Old Man Gloom Seminar IX: Darkness of Being
Geezus can?t wait for the prequel if this slams this hard, one time fake-out album is cool but twice is god-tier insanity
Opeth Still Life
Opeth Blackwater Park
Past all the hate, Opeth are really damn good. This album blew my mind with how far you can stretch the definition of "metal".
Opeth Watershed
just not as good as BWP when I really listen close...still, The Lotus Eater is probably my favorite 'Peth song
Oranssi Pazuzu Mestarin Kynsi
Orgone (USA-PA) Pleroma
I just got my copy of this along with a handwritten note and some stickers in a thick black envelope, wax-sealed. Damn y?all.
Oxbow An Evil Heat
Oxbow The Narcotic Story
Oxbow King of the Jews
Oxbow Let Me Be A Woman
Panopticon Panopticon
Panopticon The Rime of Memory
I hate to just reiterate Coma but yeah, this feels like a culmination of everything Austin's done as Panopticon chiseled to a fine precision. Nothing against the last two records, but this definitely feels the most directed since Autumn Eternal. Better than Collapse? We'll see if nostalgia wins.
Pillars of Cacophony Paralipomena
Rorcal Vilagvege
Rosalia Lux
Shellac To All Trains
Skin Tension Inaugurate Renaissance
"There is no 'free' playing on this album. Muscle memory informs everything." Jesus.

Sulphur Aeon Seven Crowns and Seven Seals
SUMAC The Healer
Swans The Great Annihilator

Teitanblood From the Visceral Abyss
The Armed Untitled
The Callous Daoboys I Don't Want to See You in Heaven
The Drones I See Seaweed
The Gaslight Anthem American Slang
The Menzingers After the Party
hoping this boosts the average over Brand New'srAOTY
The Offering Home
Was NOT expecting this to riff and smash the whole way through, and definitely not as hard as this goes. Catchy and heavy in all the right places, equal bits tech-death and ?progressive? metal and the vocalist(s) are genuinely talented and display it on a wide yet cohesive spectrum. rJust an incredibly awesome record on the whole, actual rating like a 4.2-3
Thy Catafalque Naiv
Tyler, the Creator Igor
Ulcerate Cutting the Throat of God
No idea what people can hear in this that warrants a 2.5 or lower. I get the band is SUPER hyped up but objectively I cannot see the justification. On just the first full listen this might be better than Stare.
Vampire Weekend Modern Vampires of the City
Veilburner Longing for Triumph, Reeking of Tragedy
This is ridiculous. Was that last amazing album just a precursor to this madness? What a shining example of what metal can put forth going into 2026. This bypasses all subgenre tags and should appeal to literally anyone who enjoys heavy music. Shifting shades of smoggy esoterica that are just fantastic throughout.
Viagra Boys Viagr Aboys
Waxahatchee Tigers Blood
Wintersun Time I
Xiu Xiu Oh No
Ok, not the only one who got the preorder early then haharThis is so utterly fantastic. You?d expect a full album of duets to falter by diminishing either the band or the collaborators, but this is so brilliantly composed on the part of all parties involved. Equally a wonderful Xiu Xiu record and a showcase of them playing beautifully with the influence of others.
Zao Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest
Zao The Fear Is What Keeps Us Here
Genius Jesuscore crammed full of hooks. Every time I feel this doesn't deserve such a high rating, I fall in love with it again.

No but really, that single is addicting with the marching chorus. This is easily the band's most entertaining album in a long time, possibly even since Skyforger. Huge melodies and just enough growls to keep the grit. Excellent. |

lol I get being mad at the concept but at least listen to it first. Re-recordings are notorious for being disgracefully bad,

No shame in it at all, this is fantastic and a worthy addition to the discography. |

Denzel Curry Melt My Eyez See Your Future
Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats Unlocked
Der Weg Einer Freiheit Innern
This is technically excellent and clearly emotionally charged but damn, I just cannot find anything about them that's that "special". It's just really, really good melodic black metal by the book. Nothing wrong with that but it definitely has a sort of...ceiling, for me.
Desolate Shrine Deliverance from the Godless Void

Hooded Menace The Tritonus Bell
Hooded Menace Lachrymose Monuments of Obscuration
This is so grandiose and full of movement for a band technically in the doom realm. The riffs are huge and they go into some distinctly 70s-80s metal tones at several points. My only complaint is the whole back half of the 10-minute closer drops the album off with plodding and bad cleans and it left me really baffled.

Jute Gyte Unus Mundus Patet
Adam's best and most accessible black metal record in years. I always look forward to new BM Jute Gyte and this was a particularly happy surprise. If y'all Pitchfork black metallers are worshiping Liturgy's "sacred number" shit just know Jute Gyte did it first and better.
Kanye West Yeezus
Kardashev Alunea
Kayo Dot Every Rock, Every Half-Truth Under Reason
It feels like the people who rate this low only appreciate Kayo Dot at their most accessible. Blue Lambency Downward and Coyote are similarly textural and their respective rating averages reflect that (I'm old, I actually remember all the WIDELY split discourse on Coyote, which is excellent). This isn't an entirely new timbre for them at all, it's literally the same unit as Choirs, but it is exceptionally slow and stripped. It's an album focused on broad atmosphere that you have to sit with, and I think that makes it that much more potent when it comes together. This is my favorite release of theirs since Hubardo.
Killer Be Killed Reluctant Hero
This rating may change but I?m giving it the benefit of the doubt because it?s fun as heck
Kim Gordon The Collective
Cannot believe Kim Gordon made a better Gazelle Twin album than Gazelle Twin
Knocked Loose A Different Shade of Blue
Korgull the Exterminator Built to Kill

Labyrinthine Heirs Labyrinthine Heirs
Lady Gaga Mayhem
Lamp of Murmuur The Dreaming Prince in Ecstasy

Ok this is actually quite excellent all the way through. It is of course exactly what you expect from Saor, but the quality is top notch.
Scumbag Homicide Cult
Sepulchre Psalms Unto Caesar
Seputus Phantom Indigo
This is miles ahead of the debut, kept the creepy crusty style but with stronger songwriting, and the production is SO much less skeletal which helps a ton.
Serj Tankian Elect the Dead
Shame (UK) Cutthroat
This is excellent, an easy step forward from the previous two records.
Shezmu À Travers Les Lambeaux
Sightless Pit Grave of a Dog
Skagos Chariot Sun Blazing
I'm stoked for new Skagos after 11 years, and this is absolutely excellent, but I will say it might've been more impressive had I not heard the new Aara JUST yesterday lol
Slipknot Slipknot
Great record, I still enjoy Slipknot. Eyeless, (sic), and Wait and Bleed ftw.
Slipknot Iowa
Slipknot We Are Not Your Kind
By far the most solid album they?ve put out since Vol. 3, and if not for my overwhelming nostalgia for that record I?d say this is superior. Not a single sloppy track, plenty of ?back to basics? Knot with Corey doing some pseudo-raps actually along the lines of his self-titled flows. Whichever DJ stepped up to the plate killed this record, I?ve been saying they learned how to use Sid again but it could be Clown or Tortilla Face...? Even the ?ballads? have developed an eerie razor?s edge that finally sets them apart from Stone Sour in a distinct and appealing manner. rI?m a born Iowan so am I biased as hell? Yes. rDon?t give a fuck. Don?t ever judge me.
Spectral Lore Ετερόφωτος
lol y'all had me concerned, that ambient track isn't NEARLY as offensive as the slow fade ins/outs
Spectral Wound A Diabolic Thirst
Squid Cowards
Static Dress Rouge Carpet Disaster
Steel Train Steel Train
Suffering Hour The Cyclic Reckoning
Suffering Hour Impelling Rebirth
This needs to be at least twice as long. I happen to live real close to these guys, maybe I go slap em into gear lol
Suffocation Hymns From the Apocrypha
Sulfuric Cautery Consummate Extirpation
SUMAC May You Be Held
Of course this is divisive which is why I dgaf about the sub-4 average but I shall definitely do my part to boost it. More power to them on bringing new meaning to deconstructed. The record with Keiji Haino was a little too much but this hits a delicious sweet spot.
Surgeon Shell~Wave
Swans Soundtracks for the Blind
Swans The Beggar
Tetragrammacide Cyber-Tantric Paradigm of Radical Sri-Vidya
The Acacia Strain You Are Safe From God Here
With a whopper of a closer at almost 14 minutes? This hits like a truck full of people who look like The Acacia Strain
The Armed The Future Is Here and Everything Needs to Be...
The Body I’ve Seen All I Need To See
The Body and Dis Fig Orchards of a Futile Heaven
The Breathing Process Labyrinthian
The Callous Daoboys Celebrity Therapist
The Decemberists As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again
The Dillinger Escape Plan Option Paralysis
The Dillinger Escape Plan One of Us Is the Killer
The Mars Volta Noctourniquet
The National Trouble Will Find Me
The Tallest Man on Earth There's No Leaving Now
The World Is a Beautiful Place... Dreams Of Being Dust
Ok is nobody going to even casually mention that TWIAB are suddenly a post-djentcore band?
Them Flying Monkeys Best Behavior
Oh people are sleeping on this... Reminds me a little of The Garden? Oddball thumper psych rawk and it is CATCHY AS ALL GETOUT
Thy Catafalque XII: A Gyönyörü Álmok Ezután Jönnek
Timber Timbre Hot Dreams
Wow, this impressed much more than expected. Many stylistic throwbacks to pre-60's music, richly textured and satisfyingly gothic without eye shadow or tears.
Titaan Itima
Yeah yeah, I know its not released yet but its been streaming in full on the official Bandcamp for well over a week
now. rSuper solid. Unlike Kadingir and over a dozen tracks, now just one big mammoth. Definitely a lot more
clarity and variety throughout, and surprisingly a lot easier to get through in one sitting than Kadingir. Thick,
ominous, occultist black metal and promise of more |
Titanic (MEX) Hagen
Toadliquor Back In The Hole
Tomb Mold The Enduring Spirit
Tomb of Annihilation Execration Rites

Tyler, the Creator Call Me If You Get Lost
Tyler, the Creator Chromakopia
Typhoon (USA-OR) Sympathetic Magic
Unbirth Asomatous Besmirchment
Undeath Lesions of a Different Kind
At the very least, 2020 has been a damn decent year for music. As expected, this rips.
Vacuous In His Blood
Vampire Weekend Vampire Weekend
I'm not usually into Indie-rock music, but every so often I find a band who really appeals to me. Vampire Weekend did so. The songs are very catchy and I like the instrumentation, it's very...experimental. I recommend Oxford Comma and A-Punk.
Veilburner The Duality of Decapitation and Wisdom
Vile Apparition Malignity
Vit The Dry Season
VoidCeremony Abditum
Vredehammer God Slayer
I fuggin love this brand of metal, Chimaira-core or whatever you wanna call it. Between this and the new Daath we?re getting treated this summer. Really enjoyed their last record and this one is another step up.
Vulnificus Inclination
White Lung Sorry
Whitechapel Kin
Wolves in the Throne Room Primordial Arcana
Worm Shepherd Ritual Hymns
Wrathprayer Enkoimeterion
Cavernous and dissonant and swathed in murk, without becoming a hornet's nest mess *cough* Portal *cough*. Still full of riffs and motifs that flow and hammer and stick to the ear. This is fantastic and I can't believe I completely forgot about it.
Yellow Eyes Confusion Gate
Yves Tumor Praise a Lord Who Chews, But Does Not Consume...
Zao The Funeral of God
Zao Parade of Chaos
Zao Liberate Te Ex Inferis

...and Oceans As in Gardens, So in Tombs
3TEETH EndEx
Abigail Williams Walk Beyond The Dark
Abominable Putridity Parasitic Metamorphosis Manifestation
Adele 30
Agreed that this is easily her strongest record, and wow there are some SERIOUSLY good songs on here. rTo Be Loved is her ultimate slow-smolder masterpiece, for real.
Afterbirth In But Not Of
Alcest Les Chants de L'Aurore
This is what post-black metal has always supposed to sound like. Somehow it still just does not blow my hair back the way Lantlos does?
An Autumn Lost
An Autumn Try Not To Destroy Everything You Love
Aquilus Bellum II
Already vastly overrated. This is fine but excessively long and SUPER monotonous.
Ash Borer Cold of Ages
Stop sounding off early you're getting my hopes up that it leaked.
Author and Punisher Kruller
Barbiturate A Day Late & a Dollar Short
Bayside There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive
Becoming The Archetype The Physics of Fire
Benighted Ekbom
Absolutely did not expect this to bang this hard but alrighty
Bidirna Dhamani Ojash
Blaze of Perdition Upharsin
Boris Präparat
Borknagar Fall
Buried Realm The Dormant Darkness
Cabinet Hydrolysated Ordination
Cheers to whoever typed out this tracklist into the database
Carnifex Necromanteum
Chainsword Born Triumphant
Chat Pile God's Country
CHVRCHES The Bones of What You Believe
CHVRCHES Screen Violence
clipping. Dead Channel Sky
Daveed still has insane bars and the glitchy production is just as tasty as always. It is a little expected at this point though.
Clot Grief Tethers
Cognitive Abhorrence
Cognizance Phantazein
Conjureth The Parasitic Chambers
Converge No Heroes
Conway the Machine La Maquina
This just barely misses a 4.0, but it's still some of Conway's best material
And that Luda verse was actually some heat |
Corpus Offal Corpus Offal
Cryptopsy As Gomorrah Burns
Cryptopsy An Insatiable Violence
At a certain stage it becomes hard to separate a band from their name, but this album restored a bit of my faith in bands that lose most of their original members. I think even if this album was presented by a lesser known group it would still stand out as a strong entry for a year of solid death metal.
Cryptosis Celestial Death
Cult of Luna The Long Road North
Daath The Deceivers
Darkspace Dark Space -II
Darkthrone Panzerfaust
Darkthrone Old Star
Darkthrone Eternal Hails
Darkthrone It Beckons Us All
Dawn of Ouroboros Bioluminescence
Defeated Sanity The Sanguinary Impetus
Defigurement Endbryo
Deftones private music
I'll definitely have to listen to this again...but it did not strike me nearly as much as it did some people, apparently. It's a perfectly serviceable "Deftones record" but I can't pick out anything that's particularly spectacular. I will say that the final 3rd of the record seems to have the most bite.
Degraved Spectral Realm of Ruin
Deicide Banished By Sin
Departure Chandelier Satan Soldier Of Fortune
Despised Icon Purgatory
I enjoy this a lot more as I listen to tracks a few times, but it still has so much room to be better. Feels a little empty at points, but who knows what I?ll think on listen #3
Despised Icon Shadow Work
Devourment Obscene Majesty
Diabolic Oath Oracular Hexations
Dimphonic Strangeplayer
Better than the new Tool, not as good as Ohms. Flicks both switches though
Dragged Into Sunlight Terminal Aggressor II
Drouth The Teeth of Time
Dwelling Below Wearisome Guardians
Earl Sweatshirt Sick!
Enslaved Heimdal
Escarnium Inexorable Entropy
Evil (JPN) Possessed by Evil
Eyehategod A History Of Nomadic Behavior
Surprised to be the first one here. I was hesitant for about two minutes, then BOOM the grooves caught me and I
found this thoroughly enjoyable. Mike sounds fantastic and venomous, and yeah just a great record, especially
being after 7 years. |
FACS Wish Defense
Fit for an Autopsy The Sea of Tragic Beasts
Fit for an Autopsy Oh What the Future Holds
Not really amazing by many means?definitely has some riffs but ultimately seems like it?s not soaring above the new wave of deathcore, only barely scraping the top.
Fit for an Autopsy The Nothing That Is
FKA Twigs Eusexua
Flesia Achterbahnekstase
Flummox Southern Progress
This is what Primus would sound like if they werent the worst band of all time
Freddie Gibbs You Only Die 1nce
Fucked Up Year of the Horse
Part Decemberists-level rock opera complete with folk interludes, back out through thrash riffs, and finally into something resembling the post-hardcore FU is known for being. Somehow it all gels remarkably well.
Genghis Tron Dream Weapon
Goo Goo Dolls Miracle Pill
Certainly speckled with poorly-executed attempts at something they?re...just not, but overall I?m baffled by how strong the majority of these songs are. I listened to this on a whim and I keep finding myself enjoying several tracks over and over.
Gorod The Orb
Grave Infestation Carnage Gathers
A solid improvement over the debut. The riffs seem to have more power here as I remember being...not disappointed but underwhelmed by their first record.
Green Day Saviors
That brick was not easy to pass
Greg Puciato Child Soldier: Creator of God
?There?s some depth in here somewhere.?rYeah that pretty much nails my opinion.
Grey Aura Zwart vierkant
Haken Fauna
Have a Nice Life Sea of Worry
Hideous Divinity Unextinct

Impaled Nazarene Eight Headed Serpent
In the Woods... Otra
Infant Island Obsidian Wreath
Intronaut Fluid Existential Inversions
Kauan Ice Fleet
Kayo Dot Plastic House on Base of Sky
This is, I think, a more cohesive and confident version of the Kayo we got on Coffins. rAlso, has anybody else noticed the acronym is P.H.O.B.O.S.?
Kayo Dot Moss Grew on the Swords and Plowshares Alike
Knocked Loose You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To
Kontusion Insatiable Lust For Death
Krallice Demonic Wealth
Lacuna Coil Sleepless Empire
Lantlos Wildhund
Liturgy 93696
Living Gate Suffer As One
Lo-Pan Get Well Soon
Loathe (AUS) Null and Void
Yet another band just named Loathe, but they play a riff-heavy rendition of deathgrind that reminds me of one of my favorites, Mumakil (RIP)
Loathe (UK) I Let It In And It Took Everything
Love Is Noise To Live In A Different Way
Lunar (USA-CA) Tempora Mutantur

Panopticon Social Disservices
Panopticon The Scars of Man on the Once Nameless Wilderness
Phobocosm Gateway
Pig Destroyer Head Cage
Pissgrave Malignant Worthlessness
I can't decide if this is better or just on-par with their last two. I listened to Suicide Euphoria again right after and I sorta prefer it.
Porenut Výstup k svätej kunde
PSYCHO-FRAME Salvation Laughs in the Face of a Grieving Mother
Putrid Pile Revel In Lunacy
NEW PUTRID PILE EVERYONE, IT?S ALL GONNA BE OKAYrDID I SAY OKAY I MEANT GROSS
Queens of the Stone Age ...Like Clockwork
Redman Muddy Waters Too
RM sounds energized and the flows aren't terrible, but this is definitely carried by the production and seriously sick hooks in here.
Retromorphosis Psalmus Mortis
Ritual Mass Cascading Misery
Sadist Something to Pierce
Well this has some interesting aesthetics to it. Plenty of celestial yet tasteful keys, percussion, and even some choir involved.
Sanguisugabogg Tortured Whole
Saya Gray Saya
Scalp Black Tar
Scar Symmetry The Singularity - Phase II: Xenotaph
ScHoolboy Q Blue Lips
Septicflesh Modern Primitive
Seven Foot Spleen Enter Therapy
Hardcore-influenced, nasty, classic style sludge. No idea how this wasn't in the database, even as a one-record band.
Shadow Of Intent Elegy
Skeletal Remains Fragments Of The Ageless
Sleigh Bells Bunky Becky Birthday Boy
Slift Ummon

Swampbeast Seven Evils Spawned of Seven Heads
Swans My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky
Sweven (SWE) The Eternal Resonance
Taproot SC\SSRS
I am unironically digging this a lot. Definitely not what I was expecting, this almost reminds me of a scruffier PtH, some Deftones influences.
Tegan and Sara Heartthrob
Tentacult Synaptic Perfidy
The Armed Ultrapop
The Black Dahlia Murder Verminous
The Dillinger Escape Plan Ire Works

To The Grave Director’s Cuts
Tomarum Beyond Obsidian Euphoria
Trivium What the Dead Men Say
Have never cared for Trivium, not even back in my newbie days when they were first dropping albums. For some reason I checked this out and keep coming back to it though...
Trivium In the Court of the Dragon
Tyler, the Creator Goblin
Tyler, the Creator Cherry Bomb
Ulthar Anthronomicon
Ulthar Helionomicon
Upon Stone Dead Mother Moon
Vampire Weekend Contra
Vampire Weekend Father of the Bride
Vended Vended
The best Slipknot album in 20 years. Before you call me reductionist, they were bound to get immediate comparisons even if they weren't their spawn or Griffin didn't sound like a clone of his father. There's a vague flavor of independence, but overall this is a page right out of the book that Knot wrote. They could absolutely have decided "We don't just wanna mimic our dads" but instead they made Iowa 2.0. . .and I'm not at all mad about it.
Vredehammer Viperous
White Stones Dancing Into Oblivion
Whitechapel Hymns in Dissonance
Super chunky old-style Whitechapel, exactly as promised. It is kind of comical and some will call it regressive to hear Phil go back to egregious Satan and murder lyrics after approaching somewhat more "mature" themes on The Valley and Kin, but as a MySpace deathcore kid it's also hard to deny this slaps.
Wilderun Veil of Imagination
Worm Shepherd Hunger
Wormhole Almost Human
Wormrot Hiss
You Slut! Medium Bastard
3.0 good
An Autumn Everything
An Autumn Only The Ocean Knows
An Autumn The Light of September
An Autumn As The Morning Dawns We Close Our Eyes
AngelMaker Sanctum
AngelMaker This Used To Be Heaven
Generic deathcore done with skill but no particular panache. Everything here is enjoyable but immediately forgettable.
Author and Punisher Nocturnal Birding
Baroness Yellow And Green
Becoming The Archetype Children of the Great Extinction
I will call this disappointingly decent. One or two tracks stand out but none are truly fantastic, and there?s a lot here that feels under-executed. Lots of trios sound massive but here you can really feel the absence of a fourth or fifth member.
Behemoth The Shit Ov God
This is surprisingly decent. I was honestly expecting a real hot turd and this is at worst mediocre.
Blanck Mass In Ferneaux
Blood Incantation Luminescent Bridge
Brand of Sacrifice Between Death and Dreams
Bring Me The Horizon POST HUMAN: NeX GEn
I don't.......hate this? Objectively it's pure sugary trash, but it really tickles that mid-2000s emocore spot. I'm a sucker for this kind of garbage because it's what I grew up on, so...grain of salt, yada yada. IF NOTHING ELSE this kicks the shit out anything Silverstein have done for the last decade.
Car Bomb Tiles Whisper Dreams
With the slight exception of straight grindcore, I have never understood making such a hullabaloo over 12 minutes of music. I get you're semi-grindy but your albums average 45 minutes. If you want to release a 12-minute EP, fine, that's cool, but.......with the amount of time and money spent on making three vinyl variants (of a single-sided 10", waste of plastic) plus a CD version plus new T-shirt designs...give us a little more actual substance.
Cattle Decapitation Terrasite
Chapel of Disease Echoes of Light
Charli XCX Brat
Chelsea Wolfe Pain Is Beauty
Chelsea Wolfe Birth of Violence
Chevelle Bright as Blasphemy
When Muse outdoes Chevelle at their own game next year it is going to be hysterical. This just feels like the band doing
themselves in the least-potent way. Not to mention, Pete sounds pretty solid on the heavier parts, but then gets whiny
and pitchy in the lighter sections. |
CHVRCHES Love Is Dead
If they had released this first, then followed up with ?Every Open Eye? there wouldn?t be anywhere near this level of album-trashing. Even ?Forever? isn?t terrible, it?s catchy and listenable which is sort of all you expect from dreamy synth-pop. The songwriting and electronics aren?t as mature or interesting here, fewer layers and simpler leads. It?s fine, it just seems regressive enough it probably speaks ill for future releases.rUpdate: ?Never Say Die? is trash I could make in my living room
Conjurer Unself
Cult of Luna The Raging River
Danny Brown Quaranta
Danny Brown Stardust
I really hoped for better. I was not a fan of Quaranta nor ukwis, but it seemed like this might have been the experiment to help Danny course correct. It is not. Copycats is a bumper but not what you want from this.
Darkthrone Circle the Wagons
Demon Hunter Outlive
Demon Hunter make their 3rd consecutive album of weak singles and bland ballads but still manage to rip some entertaining metalcore riffs, probably courtesy of the still-fresh guitarist trade-ins from a few years back
Demon Hunter There Was a Light Here
Desolate Shrine Fires of the Dying World
Eidola Eviscerate
Entropia (PL) Total
Everything Everything RE-ANIMATOR
Flotsam and Jetsam I Am the Weapon
Fu Manchu The Return Of Tomorrow
People said the repetitive chorus structure on the new Priest was bad? Yikes. There are a couple really standout tracks but otherwise this was pretty underwhelming.
Gaerea Coma
Glorious Depravity Death Never Sleeps
Somehow a supergroup of this pedigree can still set out to make mediocre OSDM and succeed. Occasionally a riff will echo the quality of musicianship behind this, but mostly this is as forgettable as the debut.
Godflesh Purge
Gojira Fortitude
Grave Infestation Persecution of the Dead
Gravesend Methods Of Human Disposal
Great American Ghost Torture World
Vocals are A) irritatingly cheap metalcore style, B) super monotonous after awhile. Not to entirely crap all over this, but that definitely takes away a LOT from the overall effect.
Gruesome Silent Echoes
From the bands own admission this is basically aping Death, and from the riffs and melodic motifs to the vocal delivery it?s clear that really is what they aimed for. I dont blame people for taking notes from one of the greatest bands ever and trying to continue a legacy cut tragically short is a glorious goal. The problem is that thus far no one has ever been able to match the sheer ability of Chuck, and therefore any attempt tends to fall rather flat.
Hell (USA) Submersus
Ihsahn Telemark
Ihsahn Ihsahn
Inter Arma New Heaven
This started promising like a sort of reined-in Portal, but then went downhill fast into weird...metal Nick Cave territory(?) I couldn't finish the last bit. I'll come back to it later but hrmm not caring for this as much as was expected.
Internal Bleeding Settle All Scores
ISIS Celestial
Jamie Lenman Devolver
Kanye West The Life of Pablo
Kanye West Donda
Kvelertak Splid
Lamp of Murmuur Saturnian Bloodstorm
Linkin Park From Zero
This is nowhere near as offensive as people are making it out to be. For one, Emily's statement regarding Scientology was the most understandable and apologetic I've seen from anyone on anything. Secondly, you're all forgetting that LP were never the pinnacle of musical progression...only their first two records break a 3.5 average. Y'all are mad purely because your nostalgia was jimmied. rThere are a lot of catchy and fun songs on here, as well as a couple suckers. It's a perfectly serviceable album especially considering the circumstances that birthed it. The definition of a 3.0 record.
Mastodon Once More 'Round the Sun
Mastodon Emperor of Sand
Mastodon Hushed and Grim
Doesn?t drag so much as fall off at about the 1/3 mark. The singles, especially Sickle and Peace, are the clear highlights. Might be a bit of a grower, but this mostly blurs together.
Melancolia (AUS) random.access.misery
This is definitely a funky mashup of nu-metal and deathcore aesthetics, both sonically and stylistically. It has some cool moments but ultimately none of the songs feel that cohesive or have much identity. Somehow it's still more interesting than Lorna Shore and I'd rather listen to this Aussie Yungblud-looking dude than have to hear Will Ramos burp for 9 minutes again.
Metallica 72 Seasons
Ministry Moral Hygiene
Ministry HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES
Album is ok but Goddamn White Trash is one of the best Ministry songs ever
Mogwai The Bad Fire
Morta Skuld Creation Undone
Nadja Under The Jaguar Sun
Nadja Sv
Actual rating probably a 3.8, good to see a return to form. Aidan's always at his best building one 45-minute-long monolith and Leah needs to just be noisy as fvk. Comparable to "Thaumogenesis," but a little less organic and more...industrial?
Nocturnus AD Unicursal
I gotta say it the vocals are really awful like really really really really really awful
Obituary Dying Of Everything
Orbit Culture Death Above Life
Panopticon Kentucky
Primitive Man Observance
Prong State Of Emergency
Psyclon Nine And Then Oblivion
PUP Who Will Look After the Dogs?
Queens of the Stone Age In Times New Roman...
This sounds so boring and tired?a 3 purely for benefit of the doubt after one listen, but probably more like a 2.5 honestly. Josh Homme used to be such a riff god and this is almost devoid of them.
Red Handed Denial I'd Rather Be Asleep
I get the PtH influence for sure, but for some reason I think this is what I wish Silverstein would sound likerSolid mix of metalcore and big melodies
Regina Spektor What We Saw from the Cheap Seats
Rotten Sound Apocalypse
Sanguisugabogg Homicidal Ecstasy
Seputus Man Does Not Give
Silverstein Antibloom
Is this supposed to be an album...? It's 8 songs and 23 minutes long which is pretty standard EP territory for this type of music. It's fine, better than their last few but still not really good enough to make up for the lack of length.
Slipknot .5: The Gray Chapter
Tallah Primeval: Obsession // Detachment
Testament Para Bellum
The Vaccines Pick-Up Full of Carnations
I've never been more confused by a band's trajectory...after two pretty great first records they released the dumpster fire of English Graffiti, then return with Combat Sports which I think is on par with their best. Then another pile of overproduced garbage with Back In Love City, before again falling back on their reverb-laden Britrock here. rDefinitely plays it safe, but we've seen what these guys consider "pushing the envelope" and it's not good.
