A Day To Remember What Separates Me from You |
Aeternam Al Qassam |
After the Burial In Dreams |
Fantastic release by ATB. Lots of shredding and the clean vocals sound solid. The only thing that bothers me about this album is that it seems too short. Could have benefited from a couple more tracks. |

August Burns Red Thrill Seeker |
August Burns Red Leveler |
August Burns Red Phantom Anthem |
August Burns Red Guardians |
More enjoyable than Phantom Anthem I think, but all in all, another great album from the Amon Amarth of Metalcore. |
Battlecross War of Will |
Battlecross Rise to Power |
Battlecross blends thrash and melodeath well. The riffs are fun and catchy, however the production is a bit too clean for my liking. |
Be'lakor Coherence |

Beyond The Embrace Insect Song |
Billie Eilish Hit Me Hard and Soft |
Bleed from Within Shrine |
Blindfolded and Led to the Woods Rejecting Obliteration |
Born of Osiris Tomorrow We Die Alive |
The Discovery part 2 this is not, however, it's still a good album. This band needs a great
lead guitarist to take them to another level. Illusionist is a sweet track. |
Buckethead Acoustic Shards |
Bullet For My Valentine The Poison |
Burning The Masses Mind Control |
Bury Tomorrow Runes |
Cattle Decapitation Terrasite |
Cave In Heavy Pendulum |
Children of Bodom Halo of Blood |
I totally expected this to be a giant turd, like the previous few albums. But it seems like these guys found some of that old magic and created a good album. "All Twisted" is an awesome song. |
Counterparts The Current Will Carry Us |
Dance Gavin Dance Mothership |
Dark Tranquillity Atoma |
Dark Tranquillity Moment |
Darkest Hour Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation |
Darkest Hour The Mark of the Judas |
Darkest Hour The Human Romance |
Darkest Hour Darkest Hour |
Metal elitists around the world get their panties in a bunch because Darkest Hour decides to change their sound and incorporate more clean vocals despite the fact that the music is actually pretty decent. This album isn't amazing, but its nice to see them do something different for a change. Hypatia Rising rules by the way. |
Detonation Emission Phase |
Disarmonia Mundi Cold Inferno |

Solid modern alt-metal, they've maintained their energy over the past quarter-century. |

The last 3 tracks are really strong IMO and keep this album from falling any lower. This band is never going to release another FMTS and that is okay. |

Hypno5e Acid Mist Tomorrow |
Hypno5e Sheol |
Insomnium Across the Dark |

Might bump this to a 4 after a few more listens but this album FUCKING destroys. What a great year for metalcore, plus a new Zao album in a few weeks? Fuck. |
Iron Maiden Powerslave |
Iron Maiden A Matter Of Life And Death |
Iron Maiden The Final Frontier |
Johnny Booth Firsthand Accounts |
Kataklysm Of Ghosts and Gods |
Khemmis Deceiver |
Khemmis Where the Cold Wind Blows |
Khirki Κτηνωδία |
Killswitch Engage Incarnate |
Killswitch Engage is like the Amon Amarth of metalcore. They always put out consistently good music without changing their sound much. This album is nothing different, with a ton of a great tracks that throwback to AOJB. |
Killswitch Engage Atonement II B-Sides for Charity |
Someone needs to fire their producer. Almost every song on this b-side is better than every song on 'Atonement'. |
Machine Head Through The Ashes Of Empires |
Majesties Vast Reaches Unclaimed |
Mastodon Leviathan |
Mental Cruelty Zwielicht |
Metallica Kill 'Em All |
Metallica Metallica |
Metallica Hardwired...To Self-Destruct |
I am really enjoying this. I feel like a teenager again hearing new Metallica music that isn't
mediocre. There's some really good tracks like: Spit out the bone, Dream No More and Halo on Fire.
I'd give this a higher rating if Lars Ulrich wasn't the worst Metal drummer of all time. The
drumming is too generic and better fills would elevate the sludgy/doom feel on some of these
tracks. I just can't ignore the fact that there's about 5 different fills Lars uses on the entire
album. Can you imagine what this album would sound like if they had Gene Hoglan behind the kit?
Luckily, the rest of the band carries the performance very well and James sounds better than he
has in about 15-20 years. |
Misery Signals Ultraviolet |
I wish it was longer but this is still a stellar album. |

The Absence Riders of the Plague |

The guitar work on this album is nothing short of phenomenal and definitely the band's best since Riders but doesn't quite reach the peak of their earlier stuff IMO. |
The Agony Scene The Darkest Red |
The Black Dahlia Murder Miasma |
The Black Dahlia Murder Deflorate |
The Black Dahlia Murder Ritual |
The Black Dahlia Murder Abysmal |
My head will need to be "re-faced" after listening to that track, holy shit. |

Essentially more of the same from these guys with the introduction of clean vox, which aren't half bad. Also, Ataxia IV! |

3.0 good |

As I Lay Dying Decas |
The new songs are solid, especially From Shapeless To Breakable which is a fantastic track. I like that they are trying some new things. The covers are awesome and are well done. The 40 second ones are just filler and could have been left off. Also the rerecording of Beneath the encasing of ashes is great, Tim's voice has gotten SO much better and it shows. The remixes are absolute shit and were probably made to appease the teen fanbase that's obsessed with dubstep. |

Doesn't really reach 'Surgical Steel' heights but an enjoyable listen for anyone a fan of the Heartwork-era of Carcass. Lots of cool riffs and leads. |
Carnosus Visions of Infinihility |
Children of Bodom I Worship Chaos |
Dark Tranquillity We Are the Void |
Diecast Internal Revolution |
Dream Theater Octavarium |
Dream Theater Systematic Chaos |
ERRA Drift |
More accessible, more melodic, but it is really more of the same erra we're used to. They've solidified their formula and it works for the most part, but it is nothing too exciting. |

How about those tasty bass riffs? Production on this album is stellar. |
Hypno5e A Distant (Dark) Source |
In Flames Reroute to Remain |
In Flames Soundtrack to Your Escape |
In Flames Foregone |
Definitely their best work since 2006. Adding Chris Broderick has definitely invigorated some much needed energy with the solo work. Unfortunately, Anders is the weakest link of this band. There's a few mid-paced songs in the latter half of the album that are just bland due to the shoehorned choruses. |
Insomnium Heart Like a Grave |
Insomnium Anno 1696 |
Kalmah Kalmah |
Killswitch Engage Atonement |
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of... |
Knocked Loose Laugh Tracks |
Light the Torch The Beauty of Destruction(Devil You Know |
Howard sounds awesome, but the music is very bland. I was so hyped for this album, and it was ultimately a let down because of generic songwriting. |
Machine Head Bloodstone And Diamonds |
Machine Head Arrows in Words from the Sky |
I don't even have anything snappy to say about this besides that it's decent and sounds like Machine Head. There are basic chugga chugga wugga chug breakdowns now and poor clean vocals now, for some reason--I guess I never listened to the Blackening or Unto The Locust, which has breakdowns and clean vocals, but I digress. And changing producers seems to have had some positive effect on the music, as at least there are no tracks like Triple Beam. I dunno man, this is kinda fun. |

Better than 'Extinction', but not as good as their earlier works. They need to ditch Will Putney as the producer IMO. |
Unsolicited Unsolicited |
The album is entirely way too long and starts to run together, but it's clear that this guy should be the main writer of all BoO material. In fact, this album contains some of the best material from someone in BoO since 'The Discovery'. |
