During the Steve Tucker era of Morbid Angel, I'd always hear people going off about how it's not Morbid Angel anymore, but I've never heard a single valid explanation of how he didn't live up to David Vincent's legacy. The riffs are very "heavy", while retaining the distinctive Morbid Angel vibe, on top of using detuned 7 strings. The bass is very tight and prominent, and Pete Sandoval is much more versatile than usual, varying his blast beats and incorporating new drumming techniques. Steve Tucker's vocals are very unique, and I'm not sure why more people don't give him any credit. It's like he's perfected the "death metal growl", added clarity, and fueled it with testosterone, creating an individual tone that I've never heard before. While technicality seems to be a secondary priority on this particular album, the band's synergy can't be denied. You don't typically get a lot of variations and turning points in the heavier death metal albums, but every track has its unique unpredictable moments. The only track I can't stand to listen to is Secured Limitations. They added a poorly attempted high-pitched vocal track and copious amounts of tongue-in-cheek blasphemy that absolutely ruin the song. The only other thing I can say is that if you can't understand the lyrics, go to Dark Lyrics and read them all. They're very impressive and come together just as well as the songs themselves.4.5 superbGorguts The Erosion of SanityObituary Xecutioner's Return4.0 excellentIniquity GrimeMartyr Feeding the Abscess2.5 averageAkercocke ChoronzonUpon purchasing this album, I was very let down. As a big fan of Akercocke, I always expect top notch tracks all the way through and little to no predictable songs. I've tried so hard to get into this CD and it just isn't working. There are way too many time fillers that don't accomplish the unique musical atmosphere that they're famous for(they're just kind of... there.) All in all, the only notable tracks are Leviathan and Becoming the Adversary, which make up for most of what the album lacks as a whole, but I didn't buy the CD for two good songs. Choronzon is a definite turning point for the band, so I don't think that the problem lies in a lack of effort, rather, it was the start of a new direction for the band that needed a lot of fine tuning(perfected in the following albums).Cryptopsy None So Vile1.0 awfulDivine Heresy Bleed the FifthJob For A Cowboy Genesis
