Thrice Vheissu
Plain and simple, this is one of the greatest albums ever.

Very spiritual lyrics and themes. Dustin is a master of allusion, especially Biblical allusion, as tracks such as "For
Miles" and " Of Dust and Nations" attest. In fact, nearly every song has a relatively clear Biblical reference.

The instrumentation is enthralling. Layered, sweeping, and a real shock as far as being miles away from previous
Thrice material. But the band still proves they can bring the heavy with tracks like "The Earth Will Shake" and "Hold
Fast Hope".

This album draws from a wide spectrum of styles, and it is admirable that a band could incorporate such diverse
elements as blues, jazz, chain-gang chants, punk, post-rock, metal and even Danny Elfman-esque choir pieces.
Somehow they pull it off while retaining their own distinct sound. They are inspired by all these kinds of music, but
it never becomes a re-hashing of someone elses work. That is a difficult thing to do.

The band even constructed the instrumentation for "Music Box" based on the melody from a Japanese music box they
picked up while on tour in Japan.

What I respect and admire most is their courage to reinvent and challenge themselves and make it clear that they are
not just another band in the sea of screamo/emo/post-hardcore.They are a band whose sound matures as they
themselves mature.

They never have and never will be a band that is confined and defined by the scene around them, but rather they are
four normal guys who make music out of shear inspiration and love for music itself.

Every song on this album is good.

Catchy and jammy, upbeat but still somber at times, really good blend of rock/bluesy/jazzy type music.

It will always bug me a little that "Flags of Dawn" and "The Weight of Glory" didn't make it on Vheissu.

Always.

The stripped down versions of the songs (except "For Miles") are brilliant, with emphasis on acoustic "Red Sky" and
the mini-epic slowed down "Of Dust and Nations" w/ strings.

A real treat and a memorable gem for any Thrice fan.

Denali The Instinct
Rarely have I come across a singer who makes my mouth gape as wide as it does everytime I hear Maura Davis sing.
This talented (and might I add absolutely gorgeous) woman has a voice you have to hear to believe. Her work with
Denali involved a lot of programming, but was prominently alt-rock.

Honestly, this album really is driven by her wonderful voice. Would it be the same with a different singer? I really don't
know. But the combination of pretty good music by alt-rock standards, wise use of programed material and an
amazing female vocalist makes this album a winner.

The absolute best song on the album, and my personal favorite song by Maura Davis is the haunting and completely
enthralling "Nullaby". The track features Davis' voice backed by a deep guitar progression and piano work that fits
perfectly with her vocal stylings for the song. The outro with a male chorus section comes in perfectly and is the
perfect finish to an epic piece of music.

This album is a true stunner, and deserves a listen.
