Indeed, the music is very sweetly astounding, and is hard to imagine any other way. The various climaxes and breakdowns forcefully tear you from your surroundings and into the thick, damp soundscape created via reverb, echo, and primitive/tribal percussive assaults. It's as close to pop as Gang Gang Dance can get while still maintaining their reputation. "Oxygen Demo Riddim," while lovely, is the only disappointment here, considering their last release had more of this same style; this is simply a shorter version of the mindfucking sampled tendency of Retina Riddim. Finally, "The Earthquake That Frees Prisoners" is wholly immersive and prophetic. It's easy to picture it fitting within the flow of a full album. Overall, this is a great sampler of what's being worked on and what's to come.
