King Crimson The Collectable King Crimson: Volume One
Spread over two discs, these concerts from the metal era in King Crimson's history are truly some of their best. Taking material from Larks Tongue's in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black, Red, and a few stray older tracks here and there, the Collectable King Crimson is a very accurate summary of the time period the band was in. Two highlights are both of the live versions of Starless. The mellotron was taken out and had been replaced by a violin (as far as I can tell). This is a highly recommended album for experienced KC fans.

Talking Heads The Best of Talking Heads
As a huge Talking Heads fan I cannot judge this record without bias. By looking at track four I can already tell that some great early songs are missing as are some later ones. But it does not matter because this record was not created for my listening in the first place. For the casual fan it is all they need (not quite, Sand in the Vaseline is a better introduction). It contains all of their hits throughout the seventies and eighties and that along with spare album cuts here and there is all the casual listener with little further interest in the band really needs.
Talking Heads Little Creatures
The Alan Parsons Project I Robot
The Alan Parsons Project Tales of Mystery and Imagination
The Alan Parsons Project Eye in the Sky
Eye in the Sky is a true comeback for one of the seventies best progressive groups albeit with an added pop sensibility. The album follows a slump in the quality of the band's output. Their albums Pyramid, Eve, and Turn of a Friendly Card were not up to par with their first two albums.

This album brought lyrical maturity, the concept of theme, and experimental instrumentation to the masses. The first side of the album is the perfect hybrid of the above themes and radio friendliness into an enjoyable succession of accessible songs. The second half deviates from the initially presented formula to mixed results. Songs such as Old and Wise sound would sound perfectly at home on Pyramid while You're Gonna Get Your Fingers Burned is as boring as it is nagging.

The album is inconsistent and patchy but its better points are as good as anything the Project has ever done. It is the perfect starting album for the new fan.

As late as an hour and a half ago I thought this was the worst thing I had ever heard Zappa make. But upon relistening I found this to be on par with most of the work he has done, even if it is quite different. Don't start listening to Zappa here however because even for me, a seasoned Zappa fan, it was unlistenable for the first two or three tries.

Frank Zappa Make a Jazz Noise Here
Of the three Frank Zappa albums documenting his 1988 world tour, this one is the weakest. It suffers from the drawn out, overlong qualities of The Best Band You Never Heard in Your Life only more so. At some points in the longer selections interesting melody is abandoned and the music descends into dull monotony. Broadway the Hard Way is a much more condensed version of this with a better palette of material and is highly recommended.

Outside of the couple of great songs on this album, it is mostly pop sludge. The joke among ELO fans is "disco? very." Don't Bring Me Down is the best track easily.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood Liverpool
This album brings letdown to a new level. After the greatness of Pleasuredome, Liverpool is a mishmash assortment of boring, superficial songs, each worse than the last. This is for die hards only and truly is a waste of time.

Black Sabbath Technical Ecstasy
Devo Total Devo
More of the same, only worse. Devo had lost the interesting and informative quirkiness that made their first 5 albums so classic.
Electric Light Orchestra Balance of Power
This album was released far after ELO's prime and is truly rubbish. The album's only high point is their last hit Calling America. I expected more from them.

Aerosmith Classics Live
This is one of the most horrible records I have ever heard. Steven Tyler's vocals right at the beginning of it foreshadow thirty six minutes of a down in the gutter drug ravaged joke of a band trying to re-create their status in the mid seventies - to absolute no success whatsoever. I think I read something about how a member of Aerosmith said that he was embarrassed to have this record in his collection. And I cannot say that I blame him.
