At the Gates The Red in the Sky Is Ours
Mutiilation Remains Of A Ruined, Dead, Cursed Soul
This is an excellent black metal album. Obviously the below reviewer doesn't know much about black metal. Stop focusing on the aesthetics and technical points of things and review the actual music, instead of sharing your opinion on the guitar lines and "out of time" drumming. Maybe you'd be better off reviewing power metal or something.
Listen to Possessed and Immortal. Seriously, that song is beautiful.
Skagos Ast
Truly superb. A touching cascadian black metal/ambient album that exhibits an atmosphere that most black metal bands could only dream of achieving. Emotionally deep enough to warrant hundreds of listens. Breathtaking closing track.

4.5 superb
Drowning the Light An Alignment of Dead Stars
Drowning the Light From the Abyss
This album is a grower. Was initially disappointed with the way this album was written compared to the EP's and splits released over the past year. The melody and song structures seemed boring. After a few listens, I became addicted, and after many more I'm certain this is one of DTL's best efforts. ESSENTIAL modern black metal.

4.0 excellent
Panopticon Kentucky
A unique sounding album, even for a Panopticon release. On its own, the black metal aspect sounds as if it was composed by a veteran of the genre. The drumming is punishing, varied, and filled with interesting nuances. Lunn is also no slouch behind the guitar. The most common technique here is layering a hopeless yet melodic FX-heavy guitar over aggressive BM riffs. Throughout he manages to string in 'shredding' guitar leads and solos, as well as flutes, banjos...basically any instruments you'd expect find in a bluegrass band. Song structuring is rough (and may appear to meander on the first few listens). Despite this drawback, the album remains cohesive and is gratifying to listen to from start to finish. Last thing to note; the melodies found in this album are complex, nuanced, and fresh - unlike anything you've heard in the black metal genre (or elsewhere).
