Powerful drumming and riffing, accompanied by the visceral shouts of frontman Matt Holt, propel this album away from the standard and up into a band making a name for themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Coming in at just nine tracks, the album is a blast of energy rather than plodding and atmospheric. Tracks such as "So Few" and "Error in Excellence" may be among the more melodic, but the latter has its visceral moments; the former is thoughtful and somber, and is the one track where Holt sings through its entirety. The heartstopping texture change in "Sleeper" and the vicious spitting on "Grinning" are prime examples. The rest of the album, while often accompanied with softer vocals, showcase the more brutal side of nothingface; a definite plus for the group, as Holt steps away from Nu-metal thuggery into soaring, brilliant music that is both thoroughly metal and defines what this band is capable of doing.
