Vanna The Search Party Never Came
I cannot understand the obsession of some people with Vanna. I live in Boston, which is where they originated, and have seen them in concert after being guilted into going by my friend. The show was awful, mostly due to a complete lack of originality. They sound exactly the same as every other obnoxious emo-tinged metalcore band that's trying to make money.Fans of things like Thrice,Alexisonfire, As I Lay Dying, and It Dies Today will be disappointed as they will feel they bought something they already own. "A Dead Language..." is pretty much their best known song, and will be an example. Jerky, heavy, vaguely death metal-sounding intro, transitioning into Thrice-like thin lead tones, then to the lyrics, which are that awful combination of clean metalcore singing being matched by vomiting metalcore screaming reminiscent of pretty much all the aforementioned bands. The clean vocals go away and we are left with the crying, vomiting lead singer for another while, while the instrumental hovers between Thrice and Alexisonfire again. More of the same, followed by part of the end which features poorly-done, almost Cradle of Filth-like overdubbed high and low screams, to make the closest thing to a vocal harmony that these low-rent, no-talent scene kids will ever come up with.
