good opening, faded away a bit, picked up towards the end though.
long gone are the days of the good old punk rock of the self titled, ignition, smash and to some extent ixnay
but then the bubblegum pop-punk-rock aint here either.
the lack of a "joke" track is good. the coldplay esque "a lot like me" and "fix you" are interesting, reasonable tracks in their own rights, but missteps.
i may be living in the past, but i would love Ignition pt. II. aint gonna happen though.
the track name "stuff is messed up" for a song which main lyric is "shit is fucked up" also stinks of commerical interest as opposed to saying what they believe in. however the track itself is pretty good, which is the main thing I suppose.
solid album, better than splinter, equal to conspiracy i would argue, not in style but in overall quality. and i think that conspiracy is still pretty good, even if it poppier. i think that the offspring are yet to produce a bad album; splinter, whilst not setting the world alight, had a couple of decent tracks, and even in its worst moments was never horrible. well maybe 'worst hangover ever' was pretty horrible. but take it as it comes... |
