Not essential, but a nice addition to any Zappa collection. Recorded live in Virginia in 1975. The Recording was on a tape given by FZ to a fan, who in turn gave it to Gail Zappa some years ago. It's been cleaned up and, except for one glitch, sounds pretty decent. It's a solid, if not earth-shattering performance.
A few "conceptual continuity clues" make it of interest. It features very early versions of "Honey Don't You Want a Man Like Me", Illinois Enema Bandit"(N.M. Brock on vocals makes it worth having YET ANOTHER version), and "Zoot Allures". The band features Roy Estrada, Napoloen Murphy Brock, Andre Lewis, Terry Bozzio, and most interestingly, Norma Jean Bell on alto sax and some vocals. She was in the band only a few months in late 1975. Her "extra-curricular activities" led to her speedy dismissal, apparently. |
