The first time I listened to this album, I was very unimpressed. The songs have little variation from one another, and the songs that do sound different from everything else don't sound very good. I thought maybe after a few more listens that my opinion might change but that did not happen. The only songs that I think are better than average are "Jesus Christ" and "Handcuffs." The song everyone is buzzing about, "Not The Sun," is "Not Very Good," at all. Overly-repetitious and annoying are the only adjectives I can think of to describe it. I liked a lot of older Brand New songs but this CD is sub-par at best. Maybe if I can find a way to listen to it a few more times, my opinion will change but that's very doubtful. Plus, I don't know how I can possibly listen to this again.
PROS:
"Jesus Christ", "Handcuffs"
CONS:
Everything else with the exception of "Luca (Reprise)" which is average. May even join the PRO side of this CD if I do listen to it more.
Also I'm amazed at the number of people who give this CD a "classic" rating. This CD is absolutely not a classic. I can see how some people may like this CD even though I don't but classic is definitely not a synonym for this one.

After listening to the songs on this album a few more times, I've bumped it up from a 2 to a 3, but i'm still not extremely impressed. |
