| A stunning EP to say the least, The Confession is one of the best metal bands I've heard in the last 10 years. They combine many different elements of metal into a solid, aesthetically pleasing listening experience of five tracks. While a full length album is more desireable, their debut totally blew away all of my expectations and left me wanting more. I can honestly say that each and every song is unique and pleasing to listen to. From the driving, aggressive heaviness of Jealousy, to the epic harmonious riffs of Wasting Away, The Confession has it all. My only critique is that The Confession lacks the pure, raw aggression that you would find in most other, more successful metal bands, but in my opinion, that is what makes this band unique. They have obviously acheived a successful blend of both technical musicanship and thought-provoking songwriting, as their songs showcase both qualities (listen to the powerfully epic structure of Bleed You Dry as well as the intense breakdowns of War of Ages, complete with hints of screaming false harmonics). The truth is, the metal scene needs a band like this to raise the bar once again and return the ears of the masses to truly great music. |
