Red (USA) Until We Have Faces
Red's alternative rock/metal vibe on this album will no doubt appeal to the mainstream masses. Their sound is very much alive and engaging. Early highlights for me: "Feed The Machine", "Faceless", "Let it Burn", "Not Alone", "Watch You Crawl", "Who We Are", "Best is Yet to Come"...actually, the rest of the album is also good with only one filler track - "The outside."

Voice in the Light is a concept album based on a soon to be released novel by John W. Crawford, about one man’s quest for answers following a near death experience. The music has a great metal edge and comes complete with flutes, acoustic guitars, keyboards, pounding drums and power chords. A very engaging album!

David Usher The Mile End Sessions
Acoustic takes of some of his best work, and there's a couple new tracks: "Fall to Pieces" and two versions of "Je Repars" (acoustic and radio remix - this is also the french version of "I'm Coming Down"). Musically, you get acoustic guitars, keyboards and cellos. David Usher is a great performer and he gives a solid performance here. Most of his vocal work was recorded in his living room. So the album is very soothing, very relaxing, very enjoyable from start to finish. The radio remix of "Je Repars" includes electric guitar work and drums while "Fall to Pieces" includes shakers, tambourine and bass guitar. I knew I was listening to something very special on the very first spin of the album. I think the track listing works out wonderfully on repeated spins. Guest appearances by Coeur de Pirate who provides backing vocals on "Everyday Things" and Marie-Mai's duet with David on "Je Repars" are simply superb, true highlights on the album. There's not a bad track on the entire disc, and even the cello prelude to "Fall To Pieces" works perfectly. I could listen to it over and over, it's all so very good! Highly recommended for those who enjoy acoustic music...

Melodic hard rock a la Whitesnake! Check out "Raise Hell" and "Won't Get Back" but in all honesty, you can pretty well select any track, all very good songs...
Considering their previous label dropped them and they lost a bass player along the way, and they ended up recording this album in the privacy of their own home-studio, the results are truly outstanding!

Stratovarius Visions
Stratovarius Elements, Pt. 1
Although Destiny and Visions are perhaps two of my favorite overall Stratovarius albums, but strictly musically speaking, Elements Part 1 is my personal favorite. This album manages to be more progressive and more neo-classical then any other Strato recording. Keyboardist Jens Johansson seems to take a larger role on the music side of things and the album has a warmer traditional metal sound that works for me. Lyrics aside, this is just a solid neo-classical, progressive power metal album!
Stratovarius Destiny
Sum 41 Screaming Bloody Murder
Went in with low expectations (probably because of all the hoopla from the haters) and was actually very impressed...pleasantly surprised by the excellent drum work throughout, some very decent guitar solos, and I was blown away by the soft piano passages found on many of the tracks, the transitions from the softer moments to the more hard hitting faster moments work wonderfully on this album...good variety/mix of music, probably my FAV Sum 41 album!

James LaBrie Static Impulse
The album contains a good mix of songs, some catchy radio friendly choruses that blend
surprisingly well with some most aggressive metal. Labrie made the following statement
about his new album: "it's a heavy rock contemporary metal sounding album." The songs are
short and guitar driven with some truly great and very inspired guitar solos. The music is
modern sounding, very melodic and extreme at the same time. The song structures are not as
progressive as what we might expect from a James Labrie album, and the softer moments are
few and far between, but Labrie has put out a truly outstanding album.

Lee DeWyze Live It Up
It’s a pop album folks, all the songs are upbeat, mainstream pop love songs. DeWyze's voice reminds me of Johnny Reid or Uncle Kracker. The music on "Live it Up" is light pop, no rocking out tunes at all, it's an easy listening experience for sure. FAV songs: "Beautiful Like You" & "Brooklyn Bridge"...but everything is good, not one bad pop tune on the disc! Strictly for the pop enthusiast...

After more than a dozen spins the album has not grown that much on me and doesn't contain enough VARIETY to work for me. Melo sings gently in just about every song verse and pretty much screams in every chorus. In my view, he is most successful when he holds back in the chorus such as on songs: "I Gave You All My Life", "Century" and "Emily." Perhaps it is because these three tracks are somewhat different from the rest of the album that they stick, I'm not sure, but the entire album is formulaic radio friendly pop/rock...
