Sort by: Rating | Release Date | Rating Date | Name4.0 excellentDrudkh Forgotten LegendsUkrainian act Drudkh (meaning “wood” in Sanskrit) are allready down to their fifth album since they started out as a side-project by members of Hate Forest and Astrofaes. Forgotten Legends (FL) is their debut album, and what a debut! If you look at the record's artwork you allready get a glimpse of what they are trying to achieve with their music. They have succesfully tried to bundle nature's overwhelming power into music and present a very touching, overwhelming scenery to the listener. The album kicks off with False Dawn which is widely regarded as being an all-time Drudkh classic. The first 5 minutes are a brutal assault on the listener's state of mind, fueled by some excellent musicianship (just listen at those drums and the riffing) and very powerfull, charged vocals. After that hefty bit they settle down a tad for 10 minutes of slower-paced playing that even works hypnotically. That's the point where Forests In Fire And Gold kicks in. This song is played in very much the same style as it's predecessor. After a good beginning the songs sinks away in perhaps the weakest part of FL, but that's relative when taking the record's quality into consideration. All in all still a good effort. Next up is Eternal Turn Of The Wheel, a song that has a structure a bit opposed to False Dawn's one.The song starts off neatly with 5 minutes of majestic music that is quite entertaining. The guitarplaying is very good in this piece, but it even gets better, the piece from minute 5 to 8 is only surpassed by the opening song's first 5 minutes. The last piece comes to an end like a small river, gently on it's way to the sea, and the sea being Smell Of Rain. This “song” (basicly it's just the sound of rain and a thunderstorm) closes the album in a very atmospheric way, in a manner most typical for what Drukh has achieved with FL. There's really no need for further argueing on this one, I propose that if you haven't bought it allready, you should allready be on your way to the shop. A true classic effort as far as I'm concerned. 4/5
