Mayhem Ordo ad Chao
This is Mayhem's most quality output since De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Not only that but I would say this album is nearly a masterpiece. They're still showing black metal bands how heavy black metal should be played and with an avant garde touch.
Attila's vocals are better than ever. The man can do everything and really helps create the atmosphere of a lovely torture chamber. Hellhammer's performance is fantastic as usual. The speed displayed on this album (guitars and drums) is some of the fastest of any black metal band around.
All they had to do was ditch their terrible vocalist, Maniac, and get Attlia back to make another great album.
Megadeth Rust in Peace
I really want to love this album, but I can only somewhat like it. I have listened to it four times. His voice is tolerable at times and annoying at others (sometimes I can picture slobber running out of his mouth when he sings). rThe lyrics are also extremely terrible on this album. Some parts are really cheesy like the end of the song Holy Wars, where he screams "killers" repeatedly and in "Take No Prisoners" where he says something and it is followed by "Permeate them" or "terminate them" in a deep voice. rThe main thing though is the music. It may sound like I hate this album because of what I said about his voice and the lyrics, but Dave Mustaine is a great songwriter. The main thing that saves me from disliking this album is that Dave Mustaine is an excellent lead and solo writer. Hangar 18 has some amazing solos in it even though the beginning and main riff of the song sounds like a James Bond rip-off.

Insomnium Since the Day It All Came Down
This album is melodic death metal at its best. They are similar to Opeth in the aspect that they switch from melodic death metal parts to clean, atmospheric, acoustic passages. Bereavement, Daughter of the Moon, and The Day it All Came Down are the best songs. This is a must-have for any fan of melodic death metal and it is very nice to see bands like this revitalizing the life of the genre.

I think Varg rushed this album a little, but it's still pretty solid. What does disappoint me is that the ambient black metal that still remains a little on this album is somewhat lackluster and boring. Morgenrode goes on for way too long and that's the way I feel about the more "ambient" sections. The more aggressive riffs are better here which is surprising in a good way since the direction he took was unexpected. What I disagree with the general consensus on is the vocals. They are very well executed and still sound like Varg. I would go as far as to say it's his best vocal performance to date. The production is perfect for what he intended as well and for black metal it's pretty good production. This album was pretty good, but I'm expecting a little more with the next one. I'm hoping he continues in this vein, but with more new material next time because, as he said, it was a lot of older material reworked.
