Bon Iver For Emma, Forever Ago
As I'm listening to Bon Iver's debut album, I can imagine Justin Vernon right by my side looking towards this beautiful purple sunset with only acoustic guitar as his partner, singing about the lost love of his life. The music flows deep within from his heart like a lonely sad river, finding its path amidst the eternal. For Emma, Forever Ago is a heart-touching record, masterpiece in its tenderness & truthfull in its expression. Seldom has world seen such a simplistic record being so huge in a criterion of emotion & inner depth. Structurally it's splendid, emotionally it's powerful, as a whole it's unique. Once you've embraced it, you'll never let go of it.

Birds Of Tokyo Universes
"Universes" is a double-edged sword. Catchy rock hooks & beautifully sang melodies blend with enough progressivity to make this album sharp and functional. At first, it's the more easily accessible songs such as "Broken Bones" & "Silhouettic" which captures the listener's attention. The true greatness however lies beneath the latter half of this record where the atmospheric & structural brilliance shines through. Each band member succeeds in bringing their invidual effort to the entity. Above all it's the Ian Kenny's cleverly layed vocals that deliver the most of the emotion & power. "Universes" is an excellent record that yearns to be heard, not as progressive as Karnivool's "Themata" but enough to be tempting and still very accessible.

Charon Songs For The Sinners
Songs for the sinners is the fifth studio album of Finnish GothMetal group Charon. Since "The Dying Daylights" their sound has refined to somewhat heavier direction. Album flows naturally between slower compositions like "Air", "House of the Silent" and faster more energetic ones, for example "Colder", "Ride on Tears". Over this all hangs this dark longing atmosphere, which is very characteristic for the genre. Songs For The Sinners is album fulfilled with pain & melancholy striving towards powerful passion. That passion is expressed by singer JP Leppaluotos lowtuned voice, which works very well both in melodious choruses and more slowtempered verses. Guitarwork is solidly done, there are times it even fascinates and enriches you and the whole concept. Sadly Charons weakest point is the drummers very simplified & uninspiring playing style. Another minus comes from the dullness of the albums atmosphere.
All in all "Songs For The Sinners" serves ten tasty & powerfull gothrock compositions in a neat package that's able to indicate moderate progress & growth.
