My Chemical Romance The Black Parade
This is easily the most focused and successful attempt at a major-label emo-pop album I've heard in a while. Certainly the best from My Chemical Romance. A lot of their contemporaries this past year have attempted to break their musical molds rather than choose to build upon them and have, in my opinion, mostly become uninteresting. The Black Parade IS interesting. That's why we're all talking about it. There's something I like a band that pisses so many people off because they're popular. The music on the CD is very derivative but all pop music is. Rock's been dead since 1978 and since then it's all been "revivals" - Rancid (The Clash), The Darkness (Generic Arena Rock), Jet (The Beatles) & The White Stripes (The Rolling Stones) are just a few of the more obvious offenders.
Bottom line is, The Black Parade is very listenable to people who appreciate a bit of over-the-top doom-and-gloom crammed onto a post-hardcore/emo frame and dropped onto a pile of old Queen records. Yeah it's been done before, but in this case, who cares? It's My Chemical Romance for crying out loud, not Beethoven.
BTW, did you notice the presence of Liza Minnelli on "Mama?" Nice Touch.
