5.0 classic
VNV Nation Judgement
VNV Nation Burning Empires
This is probably my favorite altogether work by VNV. It takes the best from Empires and improves upon it. Lastlight takes what was a good instrumental and a better vocal track and makes it shine, Kingdom (Restoration) is one of my favorite songs ever, Further is an underappreciated classic, Legion benefits enormously from both Janus and Anachron, which lend depth to the genuinely moving lyrics, Saviour needed the lyrics to be finished, and Fragments is a delightfully weird track.rIf we include volume 2, which has the Standing mixes, then Standing is another lyrical masterpiece like Solitary, but much more personal, and all three versions here have their own weight and heft. Radius^2 is underknown and underrated, one of my favorite instrumentals ever by them, if not my favorite.rIt's such a great album that it clarifies Empires' weaknesses, which is a good thing. Empires could have been better, and we know that because we have this all-time classic set.

4.5 superb
VNV Nation Futureperfect
VNV Nation Noire
A Million is probably the most gripping album opener to date, God of All is potentially my favorite VNV song ever, When is the Future is a classic, and All Our Sins manages to be blisteringly angry while pleading (I just read someone saying they miss angry Ronan, as if the only way to be angry is to be abrasive--not that abrasive is bad, either). It's just a ridiculous album altogether, such a strong product.

4.0 excellent

2.5 average
VNV Nation Empires
VNV Nation Automatic
VNV Nation Transnational
I adore VNV, but I don't find this album particularly memorable in the context of Ronan's other work. It's got a few bangers, like Primary and Retaliate, but Everything is formulaic (I like it, but it's formulaic) and I don't find the rest of it comes to memory quickly.
