It's at least worth a 4 taken against the Raised Fist discography. It's Veil of Ignorance part 2 - but a little less heavy. And then simultaneously, even heavier in some instances. The End (CAN) ElementaryThe Faceless Planetary DualityThe Forsaken Manifest Of HateSuper good album, considering its release date. It's almost a proto-deathcore album, but still maintains the melodeath roots. No singing or softness here, though - vocals are brutal as hell the whole time. Solos rip. Bass tone is chunky and low. Blasts abound.rThese guys never got their due. VOLA InmazesVOLA Witness3.5 greatAll Shall Perish Awaken the DreamersCannibal Corpse Butchered At BirthComeback Kid Heavy StepsDownthesun DownthesunDr. Hook Doctor HookI find the compilation releases better than their actual albums, specifically the "Dr. Hook Revisited" album, but these guys are great fun. Always a perfect to put on while having a few cold ones with the boys; Dr. Hook is one of those acts everyone tends to know at least one song by and never have complaints about the ones they don't, since Hook is such a fun time even when being sappy. Almost like a prototype Barenaked Ladies in that regard. But with the Wolfman. And more drugs than Steven Page.Ghost Brigade Isolation SongsGravity NoirGreat album, don't have much more to say than that. It doesn't stray too far from it's metalcore-ish roots, but pulls no punches, has some lovely moments of surprising melody, good hooks, and often contains that unique French "bop" Gorod features. All in all you won't regret your time with this one, and the track title track, Noir is a real treat. Bonus: imo the best female frontman in the metal game. Going to revisit this now to confirm if I'm making up stuff or not. This album stuck with me for awhile, though, and so far nothing on the new release hits as hard, at least I don't think it does. edit: I confirm I prefer Memoir to Infinite Circuitry.Martyr Feeding the AbscessOsiah LossRemina ErebusSymphony X UnderworldTesseracT SonderRating is 3.5 strictly because Luminary is an absolutely fantastic song. Album in a whole is a "fine" listen, but nothing is remotely as good as Luminary. I do like that the album doesn't overstay its welcome like their other three releases that plod along with plenty of filler do. Nothing revolutionary here, but it's a good "blackgaze" type of album. Performance from Paradis is outstanding, but that's par for the course with him.Osiah KairosRivers of Nihil Rivers of NihilThe Safety Fire Mouth of Swords2.5 averageEarthside Let The Truth SpeakHarakiri for the Sky Scorched EarthDamn. Did these guys really just write the same album again? Kardashev Liminal RiteThis album could be outstanding - I even WANT it to be outstanding - but the production is so bafflingly poor I can't get past it. If the song writing/performances were on par or released around the same time as, let's say, Symphony X's "Paradise Lost" I'd be able to excuse it. However, the performances aren't of that caliber and this album was released a decade-and-a-half later. I struggle to rate this anything above average. Better production immediately takes this into 3.5-4 territory. Better performances would, as well, but because we're lacking synergy between band and production it can never be higher than average IMO. Who am I? A literal fucking nobody. Fair enough. Consider the aforementioned Paradise Lost or the original LOG As The Palaces Burn for examples of what I mean as far as synergy between band and production. Neither album has stellar production, but they're both certified bangers where the specific production adds to "it" - whatever "it" is.rBecause "Liminal Rite" lingers somewhere in the middle with production akin to the black head on your nose that you resign to ignoring because you can't address it otherwise, we must rate this average, even if we really, really want to like it. rPS: I'm sure you're really, really handsome and it's just that darn blemish you can't get rid of that's ruining your rizz.Krosis Infinite CircuitrySeems worse than memoir to me, but it's been a minute. Might have to revise this. edit: I have confirmed I prefer Memoir to this. Sleep Token SundowningThe Faceless Autotheism1.5 very poorSleep Token This Place Will Become Your Tomb1.0 awfulAll That Remains AntiFragileI don't get how this band has been around 20 years, released one good album during that entire time frame, and still exists. Awful production, songs don't make sense, "rapcore Fist?", lyrics read like they were written by a 13 year old. Even Sound of the Republic dropkicks this sack of crap through the drywall.Sleep Token Take Me Back to EdenI couldn't believe how boring this album was. I thought with The Summoning, we might be getting something actually good here, but alas, it's just more of the same boring, meaningless loves songs, overproduction, no riffs, and nothing interesting happening. And... and an attempt at R&B? The ultimate Theater Kid(TM) band. I can't believe people used to make fun of Slipknot but these guys are blowing up and people think they're "deep" and "important." The NuMetal 2.0 wave has much, much better acts. These guys could be really great - they had promise on One and Two - but have not even come remotely close to delivering the goods. Meanwhile, VOLA exists. The Human Abstract MidheavenTool Fear Inoculum
