It has one the best combination of brutality, melody and technical skills that i have heard in a classic thrash album. In the lyrical department they seem to continue maturing, with People of the Lie standing out as an anti fascist anthem.Omnium Gatherum New World ShadowsRhapsody of Fire Dawn Of VictoryTo put it simply, this is musical perfection. Some people call this band cheesy, but i can tell that they put their heart and soul into the music, which to me is enough. There is no song that i would call bad in this album, even the slower and folkish numbers help to give it a little bit of variety. When the album shines, it shines like a knight's armour, as it has at least four anthems (dawn of victory, dargor, holy thunderforce being the most memorable) which make this album almost a best of collection from the band. If you don't feel like Aragorn fighting legions of Sauron spawns while listening to this, you are doing something wrong.Sigh In SomniphobiaIn Somniphobia is musical excellence. It is impressive how Sigh manages to create a balance between the rawness and fury of black metal with the refinement and sophistication of genres as divergent as progressive rock and jazz. It's not that black metal in general lacks depth, but fans of the genre will agree that even the most virtuosic groups sound like being straight from hell. Sigh however... are something unique. They even sound nice, harmonious, despite almost always keeping the typical black metal vocals. But in a mysterious way, step by step they show their sinister side, like a cat prowling slowly before showing his claws. The first two songs, for example, Purgatorium and The Transfiguration Fear evoke a controlled madness, if that is not meaningless. It is a feeling of hatred towards certain people that is so elegant, both sonically and lyrically, that it is almost justified. Others, for example, the magnificent Amnesia, a colossal masterpiece, is almost sensual in its malevolence. Overall, Sigh is one of those bands that elevates heavy metal as a genre with artistic credibility. It is an experience that any music lover should try.Sonata Arctica SilenceSome complain that power metal lacks depth, however this music proves that the genre can be sophisticaded, and still emotionally powerful and catchy. Probably Sonata's most progressive album of the classic era, this will keep you in a constant state of bliss, which is what this kind of metal is about, rather than being brutal.4.5 superbArch Enemy Khaos LegionsArch Enemy Doomsday MachineArch Enemy DeceiversOmnium Gatherum May the Bridges We Burn Light the WayTestament First Strike Still DeadlyI'm glad that this album gets more love here, as I find that the songs on this to sound vastly superior to the originals. Don't get me wrong, the classics remain classic, but this versions infuses them with modern sensibilities, making the songs much more brutally sounding. Needless to say, the line-up provides us with stellar performances from all band members, most notably John Tempesta on drums and Steve Digorgio on bass.If you want to get into Testament, this is a damn fine choice.4.0 excellentArch Enemy Blood DynastyDestruction DiabolicalVery good thrash metal album. Maybe it's a little formulaic, but it's what the band has been doing for a long time, and it's just what fans of the genre expect. If something works, why change it? the songs sound hellish and catchy, and the production is on fire.Labyrinth Welcome to the Absurd CircusFor some reason this album did not reach me at the first listen. It may be because of its strange cover, or because the first song sounded "odd" to me. Listening more carefully, I think it's one of their best albums, even superior to the already excellent Architecture of a God. That's because now the songs flow better, and it maintains a balance between the progressive style and the catchy melodies that characterize power metal. All the songs are memorable and have their own charm, and the musical level of the band is very high. In conclusion, one of the best albums of 2021.Megadeth DystopiaThis is my second favourite "modern" Megadeth album, Endgame being the first. I think this is a return to form, while is not as intense as Endgame, it stills has a thrash edge. Kiko is one of the best metal guitar players ever, so he is quite welcome. However, his usual style is quite different (melodic power metal) to Megadeth, yet he fits in nicely and adds new layers to the band's sound. Also, even if Megadeth is a classic band, this sounds modern and fresh. In the end, this album should satisfy old and young metalheads, and Megadeth fans are surely going to enjoy it. I can't wait for another album.Rage Resurrection DayOne of my favourite releases of 2021. It doesn't bring anything new, but it's great on it's own. Just pure metal full of awesome riffs and melodic hooks. Rage is one of the most consistent metal bands in quality and this album is no exception. Just a few songs that don't do much to me prevents this album to reach higher levers.3.5 greatDark Funeral Angelus Exuro pro EternusThis is a rentless assault to the ears that can be as painful as it's fun. It's super fast, heavy and grim, but the songs are actually catchy and have a cool concept behind them (yeah, mostly about satan). The song structures are quite simple, but if you pay attention and listen beyond the noise, there are some beautiful (albeit melancholic) melodies that in fact sound great on piano. And they have a love ballad about a love long gone. Devil May Cry, indeed.
