In that period of time I have listened to countless sub genres, including black metal. In high school I first discovered Emperor’s Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, which I am still a fan of today. Leprous the band at the center of this review were the backing band for Ihsahn’s solo material and he of course was a part of Emperor. As anyone who has listened to their earlier albums knows Leprous are a progressive metal/rock band, and a fantastic one. With elements of folk, electronic and psychedelic music along with occasional bouts of metal, this is a phenomenal album. The melodies will worm their way into your cranium and you may never be the same again. In particular Einar Solberg’s vocals are beautiful and sublime. It’s a bit soon to pick an album of the year, there still are a few weeks left, this is a definite contender for that spot for me though.
