Alter Bridge AB III
Bland dad rock, which is fine if that's what you're into. The "it's all just slipping away"/"my past is haunting me"/"life is wonderful" vibe that dominates most of the lyrics is mawkish more than anything. It's very much the kind of philosophising that works brilliantly on Lifetime Originals or daytime soap operas, but under any kind of analysis just seems trite. // The songs all blend into each other, meaning that nothing really stands out. That's not necessarily a bad thing: there are some fantastic albums that work without the peaks-and-valleys format. The problem here is that there is nothing unique about the instrumentation or vocals from song to song. It's consistent, yes, but it's consistently unadventurous and dull. // ABIII isn't a bad album, but it's not a great one by any stretch. It's a beige ensemble that, more than anything, just feels... inoffensive. Personally that's not a quality I look for in music.
Green Day American Idiot
This is probably a 2.5 but I do genuinely love Jesus of Suburbia, regardless of how cheesy it is.
Slipknot Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses

2.5 average
Slipknot All Hope Is Gone

2.0 poor
Muse The Resistance
Name a bigger drop-off after such an amazing opening trio of albums than Muse.
Slipknot .5: The Gray Chapter

1.5 very poor
Green Day 21st Century Breakdown
This might be worse than that time my dad walked out and went to live in South Africa.
