| Bland dad rock, which is fine if that's what you're into. The "it's all just slipping away"/"my past is haunting me"/"life is wonderful" vibe that dominates most of the lyrics is mawkish more than anything. It's very much the kind of philosophising that works brilliantly on Lifetime Originals or daytime soap operas, but under any kind of analysis just seems trite. // The songs all blend into each other, meaning that nothing really stands out. That's not necessarily a bad thing: there are some fantastic albums that work without the peaks-and-valleys format. The problem here is that there is nothing unique about the instrumentation or vocals from song to song. It's consistent, yes, but it's consistently unadventurous and dull. // ABIII isn't a bad album, but it's not a great one by any stretch. It's a beige ensemble that, more than anything, just feels... inoffensive. Personally that's not a quality I look for in music. |
