5.0 classic
Corrosion of Conformity In the Arms of God
Rarely does a blend of Blues, Jazz, and Metal work so well. Consistent across the album is a layering of bluesy solos, extremely technical jazz fills and beats, and chuggy metal riffs. If not for John Custer's mixing and production acumen In The Arms of God would border on avent-garde. rDespite the sonic sound synonymous with Corrosion of Conformity it still is technically sound, never getting lost in song structure or adding unnecessary elements. Take for example Rise River Rise, forgoing the use of drums for a simple maraca beat with a hypnotic guitar riff surrounded by endlessly stormy and drifting solos. If music is meant encapsulate imagery and feeling no song I have ever heard does it better. rEach time I attempted to dismiss any song as uninspired or bland, a couple more listens would draw my ears to a new element in the layering. Find a guitar line or a drum beat and immediately to are taken away, drowning some voodoo New Orleans bullsh*t. It's ethereal.

No matter how how much music you listen to this Album will sound completely different and impossible to compare. It won't matter if you listen to every sludge and stoner album, nothing gets close to this.
Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin IV
Lynyrd Skynyrd Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd
A lot of the songs here transcend genre to emerge has emotional personal ballads of Van Zant. Lynyrd Skynyrd was a band that hadn't exactly released any material in the time from the band's inception in high school; and yet they absolutely knew their sound like seasoned veterans of southern rock. rThey lived the music they played.
Megadeth Countdown to Extinction
Megadeth Dystopia
Metallica St. Anger
Metallica fans are sheltered cry babies. The production is no worse than a Thrash Classic like Violent Restitution by Razor. So many albums from the likes of Slayer to Pantera have the same snare sound but because Metallica fans expect every album to sound like Master of Puppets they hate St. Anger. Metallica sounds like its violent and complex self here, taking inspiration from the likes of The Great Southern Trendkill which also was attempting to make a record that would go against the grain of angst. St. Anger is clearly a takes on Nu-Metal which was dominating at the time. This is hard, its angry, its passionate.

2.5/5 on Flesh From The Bone, somewhat generic for thrash
4/5 Screaming Always is absolutely unique song that blends the raw aggression of Eternal
Nightmare with the melodic tones of Nothing to Gain
4.5/5 Upon the Cross switches from the speedy riffs to some more "radio friendly" thrash.
This song absolutely displays the strengths of the new Vio-lence lineup.
3/5 Gato Negro is a little more interesting than Flesh From The Bone but still is a bit
blurry
