1914 Where Fear and Weapons Meet
Lives up to the hype with ease! Great lyrical content, there's no shortage of real horror stories out there metal bands can write and reflect on and often they're overlooked, but not here. Elephantine, full, blackened and dark, the music matches the provocative album art.

Classic heavy metal, the name Visigoth is presumably after the early Germanic people (the Visigoths). Reminds me of Iron Maiden and Metallica only with germanic or viking/ warrior lyrical content and sounds. Great workout tracks...
Visigoth Conqueror's Oath
Warrior Path The Mad King
Formidable metal that will slay your enemies and bring joy to your earballs even if it's not entirely original.
Wings of Steel Gates of Twilight
The vocals here are outstanding and there's a wide variety of songs across the album in different tempos and displaying a range of skills that the musicians possess. Nothing new of course, but that's expected with a straight heavy metal band, hence why the genre has expanded so much over time for creative reasons. If you want a new take on old school heavy metal like Dio and Crimson Glory these guys will do it for you!

Excellent heavy groove metal, heavy guitar rhythms and interesting lyrical content exploring Maori culture and historical imperialism in New Zealand among other things. The songs that are sung in Maori have a different feeling, one that is more tribal and powerful to me. The track Whispers starts with what appears to be a radio conversation between a right-wing commentator stating the Maori's were savages and another speaker defending their culture as different and the need to live in harmony as more important now. This is an example of how much this kind of content is a focus for the band in their music and the messages they wish to convey. Other political topics are explored, for example in ?Nobody Here? (social media addiction) and the bands willingness to tackle these subjects is pleasing.rFavourite tracks; Kai Tangata, R? Ana Te Whenua, PC Bro, Urutaa

I agree with Voivod's comment, however, for people like me who haven't heard Dokken, Lynch Mob and the like, this is a fresh sound. rI really like the fact that the bass guitar isn't too passive unlike some hard rock and metal bands. Hellrock This is Metal
Iron Maiden esque metal that stands on it's own two feet. A classic and must listen for any metal head.
Hot Graves Plaguewielder
A really interesting blend of metal genres. I've never listened to bands with this sound before, the album presents a range of soundscapes with a constant hardcore pulse. Definitely worth listening to. Apparently this is the final album by this band, will go back and listen to their earlier catalogue.
Iapetus The Body Cosmic
Despite the comparisons, this band is not Ne Obliviscaris. Of course there is overlap here and even one of the members of the aforementioned on this album, but there is originality, it stands on it's own as an album has some powerful moments and plenty of variety. There's some nice cinematic sounds if you look underneath the layers of heaviness (tracks like 'For creatures' and 'I contain Multitudes' for example).
Inferi (USA) Vile Genesis
Insomnium Winter's Gate
Insomnium Songs of the Dusk
Invent Animate The Sun Sleeps, As If It Never Was
Iron Kingdom On the Hunt
It may be incredibly obvious that Iron Maiden is a strong influence on this band, but if you're an Iron Maiden fanatic you may still like it. Probably you'll either think it's unoriginal and a poorly executed substitute or you'll see it as a rawer, less polished, but still highly enjoyable album.

At first I felt the music across this album was a bit disjointed or unorganised, but upon second listens I feel that's not the case. At times some of the riffs also remind of 'djent' in a bad way. As with most technical death metal it's full of intricate, tortuous, interweaving riffs, rhythms and vocals. Worth listening and re-listening to.

Varied song styles from 80s heavy metal with an Ozzy Osborne vocal feel to more Deep Purple esque tunes, I personally found this to be a refreshing take on NWTHM kind of music.

An evil onslaught of riffs and heaviness. Gets better with multiple listens.
Steely Dan Pretzel Logic
Stone Rebel Echoes At The End Of The World
Stray Gods Olympus
On par with other Greek Gods in the traditional heavy metal genre like Warrior Path, for example. The lyrics are excellent and the music is fun with plenty of hooks. None of the ideas are necessary original and there's lots of Queensryche influence (for instance, 'On the Other Side of the Mirror' is a dead ringer for 'Eyes of a Stranger', but there's everything you want from a band like this in this album.
Superchanger Volume 1
Excellent stoner rock! One great long jam fest of an album, from a talented outfit in Ohio. The work from the drummer is particularly impressive.
Sylent Storm The Fire Never Dies
One of the best New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal Albums I've heard lately! (and I've listened to quite a few) I think this is up there with the recent work of Eternal Champion, Screamer, Warrior Path and Spellbook. The musicianship is superb and despite some criticism of the vocals, they are original and complimentary to the music. Unlike some other artists in this genre, there is a great variety of music on the album.

Thorium (BE) Extraordinary Journeys Pt. I
From the Spanish style classical guitar intro, to hooky, catchy power metal choruses this album rocks! There's enough variety to keep you engaged throughout the album. The vocals are strong, which separates this album from other bands that a not necessarily exploring new creative frontiers.
Thousand Leaves Lunatic Dawn
Much more well rounded and polished than Black Cloak Skeleton in my opinion. The shredding guitar solos and melodies sometimes still have that Dragonforce quality that I really don't like, but there's less of a forced feel on this album.
Trespass Wolf at the Door
Tribunal (CAN) The Weight Of Remembrance
Trouble Run to the Light
First time listening to Trouble based on a recommendation. Pretty cool Black Sabbath and Deep Purple vibes. Plenty of variety and some instrumentation and song writing.
Tyr Eric The Red
Unleash The Archers Demons Of The AstroWaste
Much heavier than their later content, I actually enjoyed this rawer, darker sound on another level. I would say this album is more of a mix of melodic and power metal with some excellent musicianship and song writing. If you like these genres (and metal with female lead vocals) I recommend this album.
Unleash The Archers Abyss
Urne A Feast On Sorrow
Valley of the Sun The Chariot
W.A.S.P. The Headless Children
Walrus (SWI) Unstoppable Force
Original fresh heavy metal power metal from Switzerland. Great riffs, hooks and musicianship.
Warrior Path Warrior Path
Excellent modern power metal. I feel like the last two songs could have been spread out across the album for more variety as these ballads can separate the power metal on the rest of the album to lead to a feeling of less repetition.
Watain The Agony and Ecstasy of Watain
First I've heard of this band, so I can't compare this to previous releases, but definitely worth listening to!

3.5 great
AC/DC High Voltage
Acid Blade Power Dive
Pretty rad, the vocals are a kind of chilling powerful doom sounding force. The music itself is more 'classic heavy metal'. I'm not really sure it's anything new, but as often is the case with this new wave of old school metal, it's done well and highly listenable.
Alcest Spiritual Instinct
Alustrium A Tunnel to Eden
Amon Amarth Jomsviking
An Abstract Illusion Woe
Ancient Empire The Tower
If you like traditional metal and want a new band take on the genre, The Tower by Ancient Empire achieves this. The album has great lyrics and concepts, as well as variety in songs and riffs.
Ancient Empire Priest of Stygia
Great heavy metal with enough variety and good songwriting. In my opinion the vocals are a bit uninspiring and that's where the music is really lacking.
Angel Witch Screamin' and Bleedin'
Animalize Meat We're Made Of
Arch Enemy Doomsday Machine
This album has the same as many other Arch enemy albums, whilst there are some shredding riffs and great compositions, the vocals are uninspiring and bland.
Arch Enemy Rise of the Tyrant
Vocals are sub-par. Everything else is fantastic.
Arkham Witch Beer and Bullet Belts
I haven't heard their previous material, so I can't compare 'Beer and Bullet Belts' to
previous material, but this is a lot of fun! My main criticism is the length, 66 minutes is a
long time for an album like this... Some of the songs can be pretty repetitive too. Massive
tick for the album art, unique sound the band has and the fun lyrics themes prevalent.

NWOTHM from Greece, great traditional heavy metal, could do with some more variety of tempo and
songs in general. To some extent this could be called generic metal but it's supposed to be
traditional heavy metal so if that's what your after I don't any issue with it. To me there's
still enough originality in it.
Gatekeeper (CAN) From Western Shores
Ghali DNA
Girlschool Hit And Run
A simple hard rock, blues, metal sound similar to Motorhead and other bands of that nature. The riffs are great on this album and the band is tight. On the whole there's a lot of repetitive content, however, and the vocals can be pretty bland or annoying (mainly on the earlier tracks in the album).
Gojira Fortitude
Grand Magus Hammer of the North
Hazemaze Blinded By The Wicked
He Is Legend Endless Hallway
Helloween Walls of Jericho
Hitten Triumph & Tragedy
Great 80s style metal and hard rock/glam metal reminiscent of Europe, Motley Crue, Van Halen,
Judas Priest and the like. Nothing progressive or groundbreaking, but very listenable amongst a
variety of other music. I think the first half of the album is stronger, as I prefer the heavier
tracks on the album.
In Mourning Afterglow
Insomnium Shadows of the Dying Sun
Iron Maiden No Prayer for the Dying
Iron Maiden Senjutsu
Jessie Ware That! Feels Good!
A larger variety of tracks with some exploring more of the soul, funk and RnB genres could enhance this album.
Judas Priest Defenders of the Faith
Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance
Jungle City Jungle City III
Solid stoner influenced rock music with a decent dose of variety. The vocals aren't great but often aren't a big focus in these genres. Some of the riffs rock hard, others feel lacking somewhat.

Tomb Mold Manor of Infinite Forms
Tomb Mold Planetary Clairvoyance
Tool Lateralus
Tortuga Tortuga
Much better than the second album. There's some great riffs and jamming all with a tone and texture typical of stoner or doom metal. There's certainly psychedelic elements a plenty too. For me the lack of any meaningful vocals is a real let down. I know it's not a focus of these genres, but the best artists in the field still have great vocalists. There's more up tempo songs on this album than the second, so some could argue it's less doom metal and more sludge-metal/stoner/psychedelic. The greater level of variety on this album compared to the second is nice.
Tower Hill Fighting Spirits (demo)
Van Halen Fair Warning
Villagers of Ioannina City Riza
Viper Queen Surrender To The Bite
Cool 80s influenced metal. All musicians in the band seem to play their role well, solid vocals and drums, some great riffs and solos and a tight sound.
Visions Of Atlantis Pirates
Wolfmother Wolfmother
XTC Black Sea
Highly original, sometimes ingenious, sometimes highly catchy, sometimes annoying or too out
there for me... The only way I can relate to their sound is through David Bowie and the
Clash, for those more familiar with XTC or similar bands (if there are any similar bands),
this is probably more relatable. Clearly a very talented group. Favourite tracks 'Burning
with Optimisms Flames', 'Tower of London' and 'No language in our lungs'. I'm definitely
going to listen to this one more.

Surprisingly good. I'd call this alternative rock more than anything else, some of the lyrics are
questionable. Edit* After researching the album a bit it's clear there's more than meets the eye
to some of these lyrics, upon first listen some tracks like 'man with a stick' and 'walking on
eggshells' can come across as odd or lacking meaning.

Rose of Damascus is somewhat of a masterpiece. I found some of the other tracks far less moving.

Great musicianship, not enough variety, however for me. Mostly too fast and heavy. To me this is

instrumentals most.
Tortuga Deities
It might take a few listens to warm up to this, if you like instrumental style stoner metal and psychedelic music you may enjoy this. Stoner metal/rock isn't my favourite style... I liked the last track the most, which had some prog metal feels to it.

The good: Great guitar riffs and solosrSome excellent stoner and doom metal elements mixed in with a traditional metal sound. rThe bad: No variety throughout the album, it's very repetitive.rLyrics are all just doom metal based and only centre on death. rVocals are mostly spoken rather than sung.rNot sure if they have a bassist or not I couldn't hear it..(could be lack of headphones or decent speakers)r
Dream Theater Systematic Chaos
Eld Varg One Man Army
The instrumental parts and solos are awesome, but the vocals are very bland and lacklustre... If the vocals weren't so appalling I'd rate this much higher. Apparently this is a one man band, so I'm impressed with the musical versatility on different instruments, but with more band members this sound would be more diverse and the vocals could be half decent!

Too corny and soft... There are some great little riffs and solos, but just when they start to get good, they end and the at times over produced vocals are mostly annoying.
