Excellent heavy groove metal, heavy guitar rhythms and interesting lyrical content exploring Maori culture and historical imperialism in New Zealand among other things. The songs that are sung in Maori have a different feeling, one that is more tribal and powerful to me. The track Whispers starts with what appears to be a radio conversation between a right-wing commentator stating the Maori's were savages and another speaker defending their culture as different and the need to live in harmony as more important now. This is an example of how much this kind of content is a focus for the band in their music and the messages they wish to convey. Other political topics are explored, for example in ?Nobody Here? (social media addiction) and the bands willingness to tackle these subjects is pleasing.rFavourite tracks; Kai Tangata, R? Ana Te Whenua, PC Bro, Urutaa |

I agree with Voivod's comment, however, for people like me who haven't heard Dokken, Lynch Mob and the like, this is a fresh sound. rI really like the fact that the bass guitar isn't too passive unlike some hard rock and metal bands. Hot Graves Plaguewielder |
A really interesting blend of metal genres. I've never listened to bands with this sound before, the album presents a range of soundscapes with a constant hardcore pulse. Definitely worth listening to. Apparently this is the final album by this band, will go back and listen to their earlier catalogue. |
Iapetus The Body Cosmic |
Despite the comparisons, this band is not Ne Obliviscaris. Of course there is overlap here and even one of the members of the aforementioned on this album, but there is originality, it stands on it's own as an album has some powerful moments and plenty of variety. There's some nice cinematic sounds if you look underneath the layers of heaviness (tracks like 'For creatures' and 'I contain Multitudes' for example). |

It may be incredibly obvious that Iron Maiden is a strong influence on this band, but if you're an Iron Maiden fanatic you may still like it. Probably you'll either think it's unoriginal and a poorly executed substitute or you'll see it as a rawer, less polished, but still highly enjoyable album. |

At first I felt the music across this album was a bit disjointed or unorganised, but upon second listens I feel that's not the case. At times some of the riffs also remind of 'djent' in a bad way. As with most technical death metal it's full of intricate, tortuous, interweaving riffs, rhythms and vocals. Worth listening and re-listening to. |

Steely Dan Pretzel Logic |
Stone Rebel Echoes At The End Of The World |
Stray Gods Olympus |
On par with other Greek Gods in the traditional heavy metal genre like Warrior Path, for example. The lyrics are excellent and the music is fun with plenty of hooks. None of the ideas are necessary original and there's lots of Queensryche influence (for instance, 'On the Other Side of the Mirror' is a dead ringer for 'Eyes of a Stranger', but there's everything you want from a band like this in this album. |
Superchanger Volume 1 |
Excellent stoner rock! One great long jam fest of an album, from a talented outfit in Ohio. The work from the drummer is particularly impressive. |
Sylent Storm The Fire Never Dies |
One of the best New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal Albums I've heard lately! (and I've listened to quite a few) I think this is up there with the recent work of Eternal Champion, Screamer, Warrior Path and Spellbook. The musicianship is superb and despite some criticism of the vocals, they are original and complimentary to the music. Unlike some other artists in this genre, there is a great variety of music on the album. |

From the Spanish style classical guitar intro, to hooky, catchy power metal choruses this album rocks! There's enough variety to keep you engaged throughout the album. The vocals are strong, which separates this album from other bands that a not necessarily exploring new creative frontiers. |
Thousand Leaves Lunatic Dawn |
Much more well rounded and polished than Black Cloak Skeleton in my opinion. The shredding guitar solos and melodies sometimes still have that Dragonforce quality that I really don't like, but there's less of a forced feel on this album. |

First time listening to Trouble based on a recommendation. Pretty cool Black Sabbath and Deep Purple vibes. Plenty of variety and some instrumentation and song writing. |

Unleash The Archers Demons Of The AstroWaste |
Much heavier than their later content, I actually enjoyed this rawer, darker sound on another level. I would say this album is more of a mix of melodic and power metal with some excellent musicianship and song writing. If you like these genres (and metal with female lead vocals) I recommend this album. |

Original fresh heavy metal power metal from Switzerland. Great riffs, hooks and musicianship. |
Warrior Path Warrior Path |
Excellent modern power metal. I feel like the last two songs could have been spread out across the album for more variety as these ballads can separate the power metal on the rest of the album to lead to a feeling of less repetition. |
Watain The Agony and Ecstasy of Watain |
First I've heard of this band, so I can't compare this to previous releases, but definitely worth listening to! |

Pretty rad, the vocals are a kind of chilling powerful doom sounding force. The music itself is more 'classic heavy metal'. I'm not really sure it's anything new, but as often is the case with this new wave of old school metal, it's done well and highly listenable. |
Alcest Spiritual Instinct |
Alustrium A Tunnel to Eden |
Amon Amarth Jomsviking |
An Abstract Illusion Woe |
Ancient Empire The Tower |
If you like traditional metal and want a new band take on the genre, The Tower by Ancient Empire achieves this. The album has great lyrics and concepts, as well as variety in songs and riffs. |
Ancient Empire Priest of Stygia |
Great heavy metal with enough variety and good songwriting. In my opinion the vocals are a bit uninspiring and that's where the music is really lacking. |
Angel Witch Screamin' and Bleedin' |
Animalize Meat We're Made Of |
Arch Enemy Doomsday Machine |
This album has the same as many other Arch enemy albums, whilst there are some shredding riffs and great compositions, the vocals are uninspiring and bland. |
Arch Enemy Rise of the Tyrant |
Vocals are sub-par. Everything else is fantastic. |
Arkham Witch Beer and Bullet Belts |
I haven't heard their previous material, so I can't compare 'Beer and Bullet Belts' to
previous material, but this is a lot of fun! My main criticism is the length, 66 minutes is a
long time for an album like this... Some of the songs can be pretty repetitive too. Massive
tick for the album art, unique sound the band has and the fun lyrics themes prevalent. |

NWOTHM from Greece, great traditional heavy metal, could do with some more variety of tempo and
songs in general. To some extent this could be called generic metal but it's supposed to be
traditional heavy metal so if that's what your after I don't any issue with it. To me there's
still enough originality in it. |
Gatekeeper (CAN) From Western Shores |
Ghali DNA |
Girlschool Hit And Run |
A simple hard rock, blues, metal sound similar to Motorhead and other bands of that nature. The riffs are great on this album and the band is tight. On the whole there's a lot of repetitive content, however, and the vocals can be pretty bland or annoying (mainly on the earlier tracks in the album). |

Great 80s style metal and hard rock/glam metal reminiscent of Europe, Motley Crue, Van Halen,

variety of other music. I think the first half of the album is stronger, as I prefer the heavier
tracks on the album. |

Much better than the second album. There's some great riffs and jamming all with a tone and texture typical of stoner or doom metal. There's certainly psychedelic elements a plenty too. For me the lack of any meaningful vocals is a real let down. I know it's not a focus of these genres, but the best artists in the field still have great vocalists. There's more up tempo songs on this album than the second, so some could argue it's less doom metal and more sludge-metal/stoner/psychedelic. The greater level of variety on this album compared to the second is nice. |
Tower Hill Fighting Spirits (demo) |
Van Halen Fair Warning |

Cool 80s influenced metal. All musicians in the band seem to play their role well, solid vocals and drums, some great riffs and solos and a tight sound. |

XTC Black Sea |
Highly original, sometimes ingenious, sometimes highly catchy, sometimes annoying or too out
there for me... The only way I can relate to their sound is through David Bowie and the
Clash, for those more familiar with XTC or similar bands (if there are any similar bands),
this is probably more relatable. Clearly a very talented group. Favourite tracks 'Burning

going to listen to this one more. |

Surprisingly good. I'd call this alternative rock more than anything else, some of the lyrics are
questionable. Edit* After researching the album a bit it's clear there's more than meets the eye
to some of these lyrics, upon first listen some tracks like 'man with a stick' and 'walking on
eggshells' can come across as odd or lacking meaning.

instrumentals most. |

It might take a few listens to warm up to this, if you like instrumental style stoner metal and psychedelic music you may enjoy this. Stoner metal/rock isn't my favourite style... I liked the last track the most, which had some prog metal feels to it. |
