4.5 superb
phOG Whole Horse Both Barrels
WOW! This album is like an auditory train wreck. I can't tear my ears away. I tripped across Fuzzy's purchases at
3a.m. when I got up for some Froot Loop Pop Tarts. Finally made it all the way through 8 hrs later. The whole
thing is so completely original. Sublime. But for me it's the haunting lapsteel that intertwines behind & through
each song. phOG mists the pale gray skies with an obtuse sequence of twangy doom and cosmic blues. One
minute we?re floored by freaky fuzz, the next lifted by trippy, western riff-lore. This is the sound of a fur trapper
dragging you kicking a screaming to his cabin in the Rockies, and then when you get there and you think he's
going to kill you, it turns out he's a good dude who just wants to be understood by someone. Favorite track:
Buried In the Garden.
