Sa-Roc was one of the last artists I got to see perform before the quarantine, where she opened a small venue for Rapsody. She was dynamic and high-energy, and had everyone's full attention. She came out holding two bushels of burning sage, and the crowd went absolutely nuts when she dropped Goddess Gang (which made the album, and is a standout for me). During the show, she mentioned her album was dropping later this year with Rhymesayers, so I made note to come back to it as a big fan of a lot of their artists. The first four tracks are bangers, my favorite being Gold Leaf. The next couple tracks are singles, which I also liked. Lay It Down is another standout - the sample on that beat is fire. The album slows down a bit in the middle, but the Black Thought feature on Black Renaissance was an unexpected but welcome surprise. She also played Forever at the show, which I thought was another high point of the album. 40 And A Mule has another impressive instrumental sample, and the trappy, heavy drums on this bump. The last two tracks are a little slower, but feel like an appropriate end to one of my favorite albums of the year. My Favorites: Gold Leaf Something Real Deliverance Goddess Gang Forever
