Undo K From Hot G.A.S. Get A Star |
This album was such a pleasant surprise. I've never been a massive Zach Hill fan outside of Death
Grips. Given that the bland garage rock of The i.l.y.'s has been his only other project outside of
the group since they formed, I wasn't exactly hyped for another side project. I am thrilled to
report that with Undo K, he's applying the style, sounds, and various production tricks he's honed
with DG to a new project.
G.A.S. is an exciting first outing for the band. This is noisy, unrelenting and abstract stuff,
but it also goes hard AF. Massive synths, characteristic spastic and technical drumming (mostly
alien sounds on v-drums), and indecipherable shouts buried under the maelstrom. This isn't music
for everybody, not even all DG fans. But if you love DG's weirder side, and don't need Ride,
you'll be very happy. |
