I have seen pretty much everyone give it a 4.5/5 or higher, but I just don't understand. First, the singer's voice is kinda annoying. It's just whiny in the wrong way. Also, the technique the dude sings in doesn't match the lyrics. If you just read the lyrics it's kinda dreamy/surreal. However, the dude sings it like he is complaining. Next the instrumentals. It's mostly just simple acoustic guitars without much to it. To clarify I don't dislike simple music. There is tons of simple music that I really like. However, this album mostly fails to even be catchy. The instrumentals are boring on like 1/2 of this album. Finally, the overall topic of this album. Altho the lyrics are nice if you view it from a microscopic viewpoint, the overall topic is single-layer and shallow. THIS ALBUM IS LITERALLY ABOUT HAVING A CRUSH ON ANNE FRANK. Like, the dude is like 25 when he wrote this album, and Anne Frank is 13. I really don't know what am I supposed to think. To be fair, I don't hate this album, and it is above the average quality of music in general, but it's vastly overrated. To conclude, in my opinion, ITAOTS by Neutral Milk Hotel is one of the most overrated music albums of all time. I can not understand a bit of the cult status it gets. I have listened to this *** for 2 times plus a few more times for a select few songs. I think I can form a very complete opinion on this album. This album is truly boring and it's just not that good. If other people enjoy it then good for them, but I don't, and I probably won't listen to this album again. 3/5 Fav tracks: King of Carrot Flowers Parts 2&3, Ghost Least fav tracks: Title track, Oh Comely(it's so long and boring)2.5 averageThe 1975 Notes on a Conditional Form
