Cirith Ungol King of the Dead
Cirith Ungol likely stands as my favourite doom metal band of all time. This particular album, King of The Dead, is (in my humble opinion) their magnum opus. The only criticisms I have are the robotic guitar tone, and the... unique vocals of Tim Baker. Once you become accustomed to these idiosyncrasies, you can fully enjoy this simply astounding band. The title track--with its subtle Rush-esque progressions and ominous build--as well as standouts such as "Master of The Pit", "Black Machine", and "Atom Smasher" cement this LP as one of the greatest of the subgenre.

God, this song is amazing. Bruce sings really beautifully?in a way that I haven't heard since "Paschendale" or

perfection. It is a really lovely epic, and I have to love it. I may be, as my username indicates, a Dio fan, but I

Really solid live album. Dio makes the songs his own, and I prefer him to Ozzy--although I don't know if I prefer these songs as performed. His own material is extremly tight here, great stuff.

This album is vastly superior to Virtual XI, and has some legitimate bangers on it, such as "Sign of The Cross" and "Man on The Edge". Other standouts include "Heart of Darkness" and "Lord of The Flies". Blaze honestly sounds great here, and the songwriting far outstrips its successor.
Iron Maiden The Final Frontier
This album has never really clicked with me, although it does have its moments. Also, the music video for the title track is fire. "When The Wild Blows" is amazing, "El Dorado" is good (but I have no idea how it won a Grammy), and some other standouts include "Mother of Mercy" and "Starblind". Overall a good album, but probably Maiden's worst of the 21st century.

It's pretty cool to see these dudes still around, and some of these songs are simply epic. "Half Past Human", "Brutish Manchild", and "Shelob's Lair" are hot as hell, but "Route 666" is mediocre in my opinion. Cirith Ungol delivers what you'd expect, which isn't a bad thing.

This is a pretty solid live album, in my opinion. At times, Bruce sounds somewhat haggard--or gets drowned in a drum-heavy mix--but still produces a solid if underwhelming performance. This was the first Maiden project released since I became a metalhead, and I may have rose-tinted glasses from the nostalgia. Still really great, and "Aces High" is one of the best live recordings that I have heard.

Iron Maiden Virtual XI
At one point, I hated this album. Nowadays I'm pretty neutral, but it did give us the absolute banger "The Clansman". Blaze is underrated and overhated, but this album suffers from mediocrity and longwindeness (looking at you, "Angel and The Gambler"). Solid, but not something I listen to all that much.
Metallica St. Anger
Initially, I had this rated as a 1.0. However, I wrote that soundoff almost two years ago, and St. Anger has somewhat grown on me. Personally, I believe that this album is probably better than everything post-1990--other than their most recent LP, Hardwired, that is.The problem with Metallica is that they have a strong tendency to be formulaic. This does not apply as much to their early work, but after the Black Album they basically repeated the same formula--but worse--in Load and ReLoad. After those two, I at least appreciate that they decided to go somewhere different. Is St. Anger perfect? No. Is it great? Also no. But it is unique in Metallica's discography. The snare tone is incredibly jarring at first, but, to be completely honest, I'm not a drummer: therefore, I do not care much at all after a few spins. The choruses are usually the strongest bit of the songs, especially on "Some Kind of Monster", a good song that is even better in the radio edit--a rare occurence of a single edit being better, but it did cut a lot of extraneous fluff. Overall, this album is pretty ok, but reeks of missed potential. At least it isn't boring.

Dio Angry Machines
Easily the worst LP or EP Dio put out, and that includes his doo-wop material (which unironically goes hard).r"This Is Your Life" is a great ballad, but hardly saves the rest of this boring, repetitive sludge. "Hunter Of The Heart" is pretty good, but that's sort of it.rThis hurt me to write, as a Dio fanboy.
