3.5 great
Nav (CAN) Good Intentions
The third studio album of Canadian born rapper, Nav, was recently released. On this project, Nav covers life stories growing up, as well as shows off his current “fast lane” lifestyle. While many of this album’s tracks are very boastful, reflecting on drugs, money, and the girls the Nav is able to get with his current situation in life, there are some tracks that dig more into Nav’s past growing up in a rough area of Toronto. Many critics of Nav say that he sounds robotic and monotone, and while this may be true he uses this sound to create catchy melodies and wavy flows. There aren’t many rappers who can melodically ride a beat like Nav. While the album (especially the deluxe version: Brown Boy 2) does get a little repetitive over time, the majority of the tracks can keep a listener entertained due to how catchy they are. The production on this album is also a big positive to this album. Nav’s voice is not over produced as it has been in previous albums such as “Bad Habits” or “Reckless”. Good Intentions returns Nav back to his early roots of making slow, melodic songs that will get stuck in listeners heads. While the album does lack in very deep storytelling, Nav uses many similes and double entendres throughout the album, which makes up for the lack of lyrical content beyond drugs, money, girls, and luxury items.
