Black Dresses Forever In Your Heart
This confirms my theory that you can make nu metal incredibly gay if you wanted to. I can't accurately judge this as an
electronic record, but as a metalhead the closest comparisons I can give to this album are Pantera's The Great Southern
Trendkill and Slipknot's Iowa. Albums that sound like they're on the edge of self implosion and all that's left to do is scream
in agony. But unlike those bands, Black Dresses weren't platinum selling artists absorbed in reckless drug abuse. Those
bands still managed to move on with other albums. Black Dresses don't have those resources, and therefore could not
escape the wreckage. It's just them.

Code Orange I Am King
Code Orange Underneath
Code Orange put out one of the most batshit insane and addictive metal albums in years. Everything this band does is
delivered with unwavering intensity. Even the albums sillier moments are presented with the utmost conviction, giving it an
extra layer of camp that is SORELY missing from a lot of recent metal. While it lacks the menace of Forever, it more than
makes up for it by being vastly more technical. Even the most accessible songs on the album, like the title track and Who I
Am, contain interesting rhythmic changes and syncopation that keeps the music weird. Above all, Code Orange is one of
the few metal bands that has the drive to become one of the biggest metal acts in the world, and with their boundary-
pushing livestream concerts, they have what it takes to pull that off. Staring into your new gods soul indeed.

Dissonant blackend death metal with almost gaze-y textures. An album where ones interpretations of its roots are

Kevin Parker goes Hawaiian. Really glad people started coming around to this album after it was first released, as hes still the king of maximalist introverted pop. Perfect album for the summer, or when youre extremely sick and youre longing for summer (maybe thats just me). Honestly Id put this above Lonerism.

Altarage Succumb
What strikes me most about this record is how fucking mean it is. Jump cuts in the first track because fuck you. Songs that
stop, start, or even end without warning to the point of making the track list irrelevant. Vocals that wheeze in pain without
any attempt at coherence. And it's all topped off by an ass-numbingly long closing track whose droning nature would
almost be soothing if the band didn't make it clear that they'll unleash hell at a moment's notice. Altarage takes their wall-
of-sound approach and make it personal, as if the songwriting choices were made to personally spite you. There's no use
in figuring out the logic behind this album. You're in their domain now, all that's left to do is to succumb

Doom metal's appeal is something that still alludes me. I only like 2-4 min of each song and it never feels worth the wait to get to those riffs. But the lyrics here are something special; it's very clear what each song is about while using clever metaphors to keep things from being overbearingly obvious. And it's all buoyed by Willow Ryan's pained yet powerful vocals. If doom metal is your thing this is an easy recommendation.

You know for a groove metal band, Gojira never really groove. I've always felt that Gojira's riffs are very stiff, it's like they've been learning the wrong lessons from Morbid Angel for their entire career, so it's nice that Fortitude loosens up their sound. Shame that most of the songwriting here is kinda bland, especially the choruses. Magma had the right blend of bludgeoning riffs and radio hooks, this leans more on the latter but the hooks lack the impact they had on Magma.

band severely lacks texture.
