The last side project Hoppus gave us was 2006’s When Your Heart Stops Beating album from his band +44. However, as good as that album is, in did not sound all that different from Blink 182. Being that it featured Barker and Hoppus (the only original remining members from Blink left in the band) I’ve said that they should look back and just consider it a Blink record, mainly just so they would start playing those songs live. I digress. Strange Love is not a +44 record. And it’s certainly not a Blink record. Rarely do artists say they want to expand their sound with a new project and truly mean it. Simple Creatures is a band which allows these 2 artists the chance to explore an all new type of synth trash-pop type sound. That may not sound too glamorous, but my God is it catchy. With songs like Adrenaline, Strange Love and Drug, this album delivers some of the most upbeat and fun songs of the year. Can’t wait for the chance to someday see these guys live. My guess is there will be a lot of dancing.
