5.0 classic
Caligula's Horse In Contact
Dessiderium Shadow Burn
Gustav Holst The Planets, Op. 32
Haken Virus
Mastodon Crack the Skye
Wilderun Veil of Imagination

4.5 superb
Allegaeon Damnum
Anubis Gate Horizons
Archspire Bleed the Future
Artificial Language Now We Sleep
Feels a bit plastic/artificial (pun not intended) at times, but that doesn't change the fact that this album is a very tightly executed prog metal release.
Between the Buried and Me Colors II
A monumental work held back from perfection by a slightly bloated run time. Far and away their best work in years.
Caligula's Horse Rise Radiant
Too early to tell if it has the staying power that In Contact did, but even if it doesn't, it's still an outstanding release on it's own right.
Counterparts A Eulogy for Those Still Here
Crippled Black Phoenix Ellengaest
Descend The Deviant
This is some A-list progressive death metal. Somewhere, Mikael Akerfeldt is smiling.
Disillusion Ayam
Emma Ruth Rundle and Thou May Our Chambers Be Full
Gojira Magma
Invent Animate The Sun Sleeps, As If It Never Was
This 10 minute EP is better than most full releases.
Lord Huron Long Lost
Mare Cognitum Solar Paroxysm
Mastodon Hushed and Grim
Neurosis An Undying Love for a Burning World
For my first foray into Neurosis, this just absolutely rocks.
Numenorean Adore
Tool 10,000 Days
VOLA Witness
Zao The Crimson Corridor
Knew this album would be good, but didn't expect it to exceed my expectations this much. A wonderfully dark surprise!
Zao The Funeral of God

4.0 excellent
...and Oceans Cosmic World Mother
Becoming The Archetype Children of the Great Extinction
Ben Quad I'm Scared That's All There Is
Capstan Restless Heart, Keep Running
Dream Theater A View From The Top Of The World
Elder (USA-MA) Omens
Fleshwater We're Not Here To Be Loved
Hail the Sun New Age Filth
Invent Animate Heavener
Karmanjakah Diamond Morning
While some of sequencing of the album is bumpy (especially for the first half of the album), the highs will make you forget everything you could want to nitpick. This will make many Top 10 lists this year and perhaps even AotY for some.
Need Norchestrion: Α Song For The End
Persefone Metanoia
Poppy I Disagree
I am a metalhead, but secretly love Poppy, and have from the beginning (my wife and I almost used 'Lowlife' in our wedding). I was nervous about her crossover into metal, especially with BLOODMONEY and Concrete as the first singles, but the rest of this album absolutely nails the blend of pop and metal Poppy. Excellent production, good songwriting, even better than expected album structuring - this is good.
Protest the Hero Palimpsest
Psychotic Waltz The God-Shaped Void
Squid Bright Green Field
The Dear Hunter Sunya
I admit that this direction in TDH's sound isn't my personal favorite, but Sunya is easily the best executed version of that sound to date by a clear mile. Vibrant and energetic while building on (and even retroactively improving) Antimai in all the right ways. While I miss the sound of the Act albums, the kindling is there for just as great a payoff with future releases.
Ulcerate Stare Into Death and Be Still
Deceptively simple and straightforward at first, but layers upon layers upon layers await with further spins. Easily an AOTY contender.
VOLA Live from the Pool

3.5 great
Anubis Gate Interference
Capstan In the Wake of Our Discord
Gojira Fortitude
Haste the Day Dissenter
Norma Jean All Hail
Rivers of Nihil The Work
Soen Imperial
Tool Fear Inoculum

3.0 good
Mastodon Emperor of Sand
Mastodon Once More 'Round the Sun
Wolves at the Gate Eclipse

2.5 average
Capstan Separate
Textures Genotype
The Dear Hunter The Indigo Child

2.0 poor
Demon Hunter Exile
